2009 Ford Taurus X Review
Pros
- Available AWD.
- Smooth ride.
- Up to seven seats.
Cons
- Underwhelming materials quality.
- Coarse V6.
The 2009 Ford Taurus X is a wagon that comes standard with six seats, with a seven-seat setup available. A wagon version of Ford’s Taurus full-size sedan, the Taurus X is for drivers seeking a three-row vehicle with spacious accommodations and comfortable handling.
All Taurus X wagons have a 3.5-liter V6 under the hood that produces 263 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque, with a 6-speed automatic transmission shifting the gears. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, or you can upgrade to all-wheel drive (AWD).
The Taurus X’s standard configuration offers six seats across three rows. It’s spacious enough to serve as a capable alternative to a minivan if you’re looking for a family-friendly vehicle. Its suspension is tuned for comfort, so this Ford glides over ruts and potholes with little fuss. Its smooth ride makes it excellent for daily driving and long road trips.
All-wheel drive gives a vehicle more confident handling in rough weather, boosting traction to keep the wheels glued to the road even with rain, ice, or snow on the ground. This feature is available in the Taurus X, so it’s a good choice if you need a vehicle that’s up to the challenge of driving in a harsh climate.
There are also a couple of weaknesses to consider. The quality of the materials used in the cabin could be better; other vehicles in its class have nicer interiors. Also, this wagon’s V6 sounds coarse under heavy acceleration.

2009 Ford Taurus X Reviews
Consumer Reviews
Great car, good gas mileage, reliable, has only ever needed regular maintenance, happy with it
I bought this car new in 2009 and its been such a good car with absolutely zero repairs, I wished i bought two of them and put the second one in storage to be used when this one finally ever wears out. So far its still running like a new car. But i have never even had to replace the brake pads on this car. the only items that have been replaced are the tires and even the original Ford battery lasted 12 years! the costco interstate replacements are not so good. they go about 2 years and fail. So i have had two costco batteries after the original Ford battery died after 12 years. lets see, I also do the normal oil changes about every 4,000 miles. And one time when i called a local Ford dealer a few years ago see if I am supposed to do any maintenance, as the car never went back to the dealer since it left their premises when I first bought it, the service writer said that if i wanted, they could change the brake fluid and transmission fluid. so i did those things for $285. but the above things are all I have had to do with this car. Too bad they stopped making them in 09. Driving it is good. the body is based on a volvo architecture as Ford owned volvo at the time. so the car gets a 5 star safety rating for crash tests. It drives more like a higher end toyota than the typical heavy American car feel. For me, I prefer the big heavy American car type of ride and handling. but I have gotten used to that and if your okay with a toyota, or honda, etc, you will probably really like this car. But if you cannot find a good Taurus X, I gather the Flex is basically the same car mechanically. So If you can find a good used Flex, I imagine they are a pretty safe bet as well.
Has been the best car for my family. On my 4th Taurus and wish they were still being manufactured.
Good gas mileage. Comfortable ride. Little maintenance. Spacious.
It offers plenty of room for the kids and I. It gets good gas mileage. I haven’t had anything major since I got it. I wished they’d bring them back.
