Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA Right for You?
What Is It & Who Is It For?
For people who want a subcompact luxury SUV that can go from 0 to 60 mph in a hurry, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA is it. Its engine isn’t particularly potent – it’s a 208-horsepower 4-cylinder – but the GLA features launch control that raises its revs and helps punch this little ute to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. The GLA seats five, but the second row is small; kids and luggage are all that will be happy back there.
What Makes It Unique?
Launch control isn’t a common feature in this class, and it certainly sets the GLA apart. The other ways in which this Benz stands out, however, are not good. Its cargo space is among the lowest in the class, the cabin doesn’t square with its price and the ride can be bumpy.
GLA vs. Other Mercedes-Benz Models
In Mercedes-Benz’s SUV lineup, the subcompact GLA is the smallest SUV available. It sits below the GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, and the G-Class.
Mercedes-Benz GLA vs. Competition
Subcompact luxury SUVs make up one of the more popular vehicle classes in the U.S. right now, so the GLA faces fierce competition:
BMW X1: More refined cabin than the GLA, with a more potent base engine and a much smoother ride.
Audi Q3: Far better interior than the GLA, with standard all-wheel drive.
Volvo XC40: Rivals the GLA in fuel economy and has a much longer list of standard active-safety features and a better ride.

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA vs. Older GLAs
Mercedes-Benz launched the GLA for the 2015 model year. The exterior received a refresh for 2018, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard for 2017. To date, however, the GLA has not been fully redesigned. That means any GLA from 2015-2020 will look similar and have similar features, so you could save money by choosing an older GLA.

We recommend the base model, which delivers good engine power and a relatively lengthy list of standard features.

The GLA 250 4Matic is also worth considering if you need all-wheel drive; that’s the only real difference between the two models.

Consumer Reviews
The imbedded technology discourages drivers from making mistakes, thereby minimizing the risk of having accidents.
The best vehicle so far! I use it for business purposes.
It’s just an ok car. No touchscreen, very small inside, rough ride. Those are the cons. Comfortable seating, cool radio dial, very peppy, easy to park, fun to drive on the freeway and it’s a Mercedes.
I like everything about it.
Good quality Interior is awesome
