I took my 2018 Yukon XL to Rivertown GMC in Columbus, GA to fix a problem that I described as happening primarily when accelerating normally from a complete stop. Its like a rocky start, a pause, excessive lurching, or even a hesitation, but it did not feel like an engine hesitation, rather a rocky start.
They diagnosed the problem as leaking rear shocks & front struts. They even sent me a video, which looked pretty convincing. So, reluctantly and feeling I had little choice, I approved the $5,200 repair.
Immediately upon receiving the vehicle after the repair, I noticed the problem had not been resolved. I waited a few days, hoping the problem would resolve with time. The problem still persisted, so I returned to the dealership, less than happy. After explaining that the problem wasnt fixed, the advisor asked, What do you want me to do? I said, Put the old parts back on and refund my $5,200. He said that he couldnt do that. Then I said, Reduce the invoice to cost and refund the difference. He said that he could not do that either because the ticket was already closed.
He then explained that I needed the repairs and if they werent done, I would have excessive tire wear. My response was that I can buy a lot of tires for $5,200 and the repair was neither necessary, nor fixed the problem.
The advisor did offer to have a technician ride with me to see if he noticed anything. I offered for the technician to drive, with me as a passenger. We did not leave the parking lot of the dealership, when he said, you need a new driver-side motor mount!
When it was convenient to leave the vehicle for this repair, I returned to the same dealership. They replaced the motor mount and the problem went away. After some more arguing, they agreed to absorb the cost of this repair ($918), but Im still out the $5,200.
