2019 Chrysler Pacifica Review
Pros
- Deluxe cabin
- Poised handling
- Good fuel economy
Cons
- Rivals have more cargo room
- Seats may be too firm for some tastes
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica debuted as one of the most technologically advanced vehicles in its segment. Two years later, it’s only gotten better. The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica continues to offer innovative features, a high-efficiency powertrain and a wide range of cargo solutions. For 2019, the Pacifica also serves up more premium content.
Chrysler’s popular minivan comes with a seven-person seating layout. The 2019 Pacifica L is the entry model, and it’s joined by the LX, Touring Plus, Touring L, Touring L Plus and Limited. Additionally, there are plug-in hybrid versions of the Touring Plus, Touring L and Limited. All trim levels are equipped with a V6 and front-wheel drive. Non-hybrid models have a standard nine-speed automatic transmission. The Pacifica Hybrids rely on a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
As mentioned, most trim levels gain additional equipment for 2019. This ranges from an “S” appearance package for hybrid trims to new 17-inch wheels for a variety of models.
Exterior
Chrysler designers did a nice job bringing sporty details to the 2019 Pacifica. That’s particularly true at the front of the vehicle, where you see sweptback headlights and distinctive trim accents under the front bumper. The dynamic shape of the rear roof pillars and expressive two-piece taillights make an impact at the rear.
The Pacifica entry model offers standard halogen reflector-style headlamps, heated mirrors and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. A tri-pane roof is among the option highlights. It can retract over the first two rows. To help with cargo, a hands-free tailgate and hands-free sliding side doors are available. Other additional content includes high-intensity-discharge headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, LED fog lamps and power-folding mirrors with integrated lighting and a reverse tilt-down function.
Interior
The cabin of the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica is stylish and highly functional. A dashboard with flowing shapes and a platform-like setting set the tone. Engineers also delivered a modern cue by putting a rotary-style transmission shifter on that platform. A three-person bench seat is standard for second and third rows. Second-row captain’s chairs are standard above the L trim, and a power-folding third row can be found in the highest trim levels. Both back rows can be stowed in the floor. In this configuration, the Pacifica has a cargo capacity of 165 cubic feet.
Some rivals have more standard content than the Pacifica. What the Pacifica offers are standard cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, manually adjustable air conditioning cruise control and a tilt-and-telescoping steering column. The uplevel trims can serve up more high-end equipment, though. They provide leather upholstery, eight-way power-adjustable and climate-controlled front seats, heated rear seats, tri-zone automatic climate control and a heated and leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Another bonus: an integrated vacuum system for cleaning up the cabin.
Performance
The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica keeps a standard 3.6-liter V6 under its hood. This engine produces 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The Pacifica Hybrid modifies the same V6 and complements it with a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors. The total output for the hybrid powertrain is about 260 horsepower. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard for all models except the hybrids. Those are matched with a CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard across the lineup.
The standard powertrain is the most capable and can pull up to 3,600 pounds. The plug-in Pacifica models are the most efficient. They are expected to have a driving range of more than 565 miles, which includes 33 miles on electricity alone. They’re also estimated to achieve 32 mpg in combined driving with gasoline-hybrid power.
Technology
Things are pretty basic in terms of standard technology. In the base model, you get a rearview camera, rear parking sensors and six audio speakers.
The upper trims can make up for this, however. They can provide safety features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, a blind spot monitor, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and automatic parking assistance. As for infotainment options, those include a navigation system, an 8.4-inch touch screen, mobile Wi-Fi, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and a comprehensive rear-seat entertainment system. Audio lovers can choose between a 13-speaker Alpine system or a 20-speaker one from Harman Kardon.
