2009 Audi S4 Review

ByJoel Patel

The 2009 Audi S4 is a high-performance compact convertible that has seating for up to four people. It’s meant for drivers who want a premium convertible with powerful engines, quick acceleration, and balanced handling. Audi sells the S4 with standard all-wheel drive (AWD) that brings an impressive amount of grip around corners, while power comes from a standard V8 engine that makes 340 horsepower. In addition to having a strong engine and refined handling, the S4 has a high-end cabin with premium materials, upscale convenience features, and comfortable seats.

The S4 separates itself from other high-performance convertibles with its standard V8 engine, standard AWD system, premium cabin, and comfortable seats. Keep in mind, though, it trails key rivals when it comes to fuel economy, rear legroom, and interior noise. With a standard V8 engine and standard AWD, the S4 has poor fuel economy compared to rivals. As a compact convertible, it also has a tight backseat with just 32.4 inches of legroom. And because of the S4’s soft-top roof, this convertible can get loud at highway speeds.

Audi S4 Changes for 2009

  • Newly optional blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.

Where the S4 Sits in the 2009 Audi Lineup

Audi’s vehicle lineup includes cars, SUVs, wagons, and sports cars such as the TTS. The S4 is positioned in the middle of Audi’s lineup. It sits above the A3, A4, A5, and S5, but below the A6, S6, A8, and S8.

2009 Audi S4 vs. the Competition

A performance-oriented convertible such as the S4 is an ideal choice for shoppers who need a compact convertible with a high-end interior, a powerful V8 engine, and athletic handling. The S4 competes with these rivals:

  • Mercedes-Benz CLK: Available 382-horsepower engine, quick acceleration, plush cabin, composed ride quality, and comfortable seats.

  • BMW M3: Razor-sharp handling, 414-horsepower V8 engine, multiple available body styles, upscale cabin, and a relatively roomy backseat.

  • Infiniti G37: Powerful 330-horsepower V6 engine, well-equipped trims, wide range of body styles, sporty handling, and intuitive tech features.

Should I Buy an Older Audi S4 Instead?

The 2009 S4 is in its third generation, which was introduced with the 2007 model. Any older third-generation model (2007-2009) will be broadly similar to the 2009 S4. You could therefore save money by purchasing a used S4 that’s older than the 2009 model.

One car for all seasons

If you could only have one car that would tick all of the boxes, this could be the one! V8 power, legendary Audi all wheel drive, 4 seater, convertible, standard shift, tight sports suspension, and an amazing exhaust note. What more could you ask for??
