2007 Volkswagen Eos Review
Pros
- Retractable hardtop
- Integrated sunroof
- Choice of turbo-4 or V6 engine
- Basic but top-quality cabin
Cons
- Tight backseat
- Tiny trunk
The 2007 Volkswagen Eos is a two-door convertible that seats four people. With a retractable hardtop instead of a cloth roof, it’s a worthy companion for sun worshippers looking for a three- or four-season convertible. Retractable-hardtop convertibles afford added security and protection from wind and road noise, as well as protection from the elements, making them a good option for those who want a convertible but don’t live in classic convertible country.
New for 2007, the Eos is just such a car, and it’s based on the compact Golf hatchback. Adding yet another element to its open-air potential, the Eos’ retractable roof comes with an integrated sunroof. The car packs VW’s familiar 200-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, which can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. A 250-horsepower 3.2-liter V6 comes in the appropriately named 3.2L trim, which pairs exclusively with the automatic transmission. The Eos rides smoothly and handles nicely, without the difficulty of entering and exiting that stereotypical low-slung convertibles can present.

Where the Eos Sits in the 2007 Volkswagen Lineup
The new Volkswagen Eos convertible is joined for 2007 by the compact Golf and GTI hatchbacks, the Jetta sedan, and the Tiguan and Touareg SUVs.
2007 Volkswagen Eos vs. the Competition
There aren’t as many convertibles in dealer showrooms as there once were, but these picks remain for 2007:
Mini Cooper Convertible: Eccentric British car with lots of character and great handling.
Toyota Camry Solara: Essentially a coupe/convertible version of the Camry.
Volvo C70: Volvo’s retractable-hardtop convertible goes farther upscale than the VW.

Most versions of the 2007 Volkswagen Eos can hold a maximum of 10.5 cubic feet of cargo in its smallish trunk – and that’s with the top up. Should I Buy an Older Volkswagen Eos Instead?
This was the first model year for the Volkswagen Eos, which would run through 2016 with nominal updates along the way before being discontinued. If you’re looking at a used Eos, make sure it passes a mechanical inspection (especially regarding the retractable roof) and a title search.

Car is great. Sun roof hard top convertible
2007 Baby Blue hard top convertible 2.0T, Such a fun car for the weekends in Pure Michigan!! Love this car so much, that I will run it til it dies....and then I will bury it and visit it on Sundays.
What a car!
I bought used as a one owner and have only had regular maintenance repairs. It has plenty of get up and go and is fun to drive. I haven’t driven in snow.
My wife wanted a convertible and I didn't because I had one as a teenager and it was nothing but trouble. The EOS hard top convertible Looks and drives like a hardtop, but when you put the top down it's a very attractive convertible.
