2000 Pontiac Sunfire Review
Pros
- Three body styles
- Sporty styling
- Peppy optional 4-cylinder
Cons
- Cheap cabin trim
- Lazy acceleration (base 4-cylinder)
- Spartan entry-level sedan
The 2000 Pontiac Sunfire is a compact car available in coupe, sedan, and convertible body styles.
The base SE sedan and coupe are powered by a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder that can pair with a 5-speed manual, 3-speed automatic, or 4-speed automatic transmission. Stepping up to the Sunfire GT coupe or convertible brings a 150-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that provides much stronger acceleration without sacrificing much in the way of fuel economy.
The Sunfire’s 5-speed manual, which can pair with either engine, earns an EPA-estimated 24 mpg combined city/highway. The Sunfire joined the Pontiac lineup for the 1995 model year.

Consumer Reviews
I have enjoyed this little 2000 Pontiac for 25 years! I wish they still made them!!
Great short trip. Vehicle always starts. Stops on a dime. Very tight steering. Very sporty look and feel. Makes an old person feel young again.
This was a very solid year for the sunfire. I love this car. It’s not much to look at, certainly not quick, but it has yet to leave me stranded and just recently made a cross country trip. It’s a solid car that I believe will keep on running for the foreseeable future. The A/C still works after 25 years and it was given to me for free so I really have no room to complain about anything. The only thing I’ve had to replace was the antifreeze reservoir and a power steering line. Also, it’s a 99 model but I wasn’t able to select 99 in the drop down menu.
SO FAR GREAT CAR, HAVEN'T HAD IT LONG ENOUGH TO FIND ANY COMPLAINTS YET.
It’s reliable and easy to work on. Ac works I paid $1200.00 to get it working and new brakes fairly new tires. New touch screen stereo and four speakers. It’s compact and drives very well.
