1. Despite having an appointment, installing 2 tires took over 90 minutes; 2. The pricing which I was quoted on-line did not match the pricing I was quoted when I checked in for the mounting; when I asked about this, I was told I could save some money by signing up for Walmart+ (which is free for 30 days) so I did so; nevertheless, it did not actually save me any money from what I was quoted online, and it will be an expensive bait-and-switch if I don't cancel within 30 days; 3. I was told I would have to pay for rotation in order to move existing tires from rear to front, in order to install new tires on rear. (At most shops this is just free, as part of buying new tires); 4. Then, after paying for a rotation, the technician refused to do the rotation, claiming it was against policy to rotate a tire having a tread depth which was below their minimum level. So I will have rotate them myself, at home, which is annoying but something I can do. 5. At the end the technician asked me to sign a statement acknowledging that one of the NEW tires showed wear due to bad misaligment (even though it was brand new.) When I pointed out this mistake he refused to remove the NEW tire from list of tires having existing wear. (I refused to sign it.) As for the assertion of misalignment, note that Walmart does not do alignments, so they don't have the equipment to measure and diagnose it: what I do know is that I got 60000 miles from a set of tires rated at 60000 miles, so any misalignment I do have, I expect will be found to be minimal, when I take it in for realignment, which I will do soon. On the positive side, the technician communicated clearly, was neither rude nor blatantly dismissive. In summary, I mark all this down to Walmart policy decisions which have been proceduralized in an intentionally non-transparent way, not to any animus or rigidity on the part of the employee -- beyond that required of him by Walmart. In the future, I will again purchase tires from Walmart -- because the price was slightly better than elsewhere -- but I will take them to a neighborhood mechanic for installation who is more flexible . To be clear, I think the technician was conscientious and I would be fine having him service my car, but at a different shop.
