Contradictions, Lies, and Broken Promises
very bad experience that could have been made better, they just didn't want to try
basics:
Bought the car on 2/18/24
Made verbal promises to me that they would fix a broken rear wiper (see pic) and they would cover my gas to drive the 50m round trip to their nearest service shop from my home, but when buying the car, made me sign a document that said any verbal agreements would not be kept!

When I arrived at their shop in Bellflower on 3-6-24 for the wiper repair, the part was not there (even though they'd asked for a photo of the part so they could order it ahead of time), and after waiting 4 hours, was told the part was not available until the next day, and that they would not cover my gas. Wendy in Bellflower attempted to get verification from Kar Genie that they'd promised to cover my gas, but Mgr at KarGenie denied ever having promised that

Milford the salesman told me that the advertised price is a fake price that's artificially low to get people to come in, and then they make you buy add-ons to get the price back up to where the deanship wants the price. I felt the advertised price was pretty low, so even after being forced to buy $1,100 in dealer add ons (GPS I did not want $795 and clear stickers on the doors $350).
When I bought the car, (2008 4Runner list price of $9175), I was also trading in a 2021 Lexus UX250h with less than 18k miles they did agree to buy the Lexus for $27k (what car max had already offered me)I knew they will make at least $5k when they sell my Lexus, yet they were still upcharging me for dealer add-ons for the 4Runner. I told them I did not want ANY upcharges, but again, Milford said I had to buy add-ons. Even with the upcharges the price was still decent, so I bought the car and signed the ridiculous documents.
When I first came for a test drive on 2/17/24, I noticed the rear wiper was broken, and Milford told me, 'no problem we'll take care of that.' The next day when I came to sign the deal and pay for the car, the wiper was still broken, Milford claimed he'd forgotten, but assured me they'd repair it at whichever STG (parent company of Kar Genie) service center I wanted. So, when signing I made a point of the contradiction of signing a doc that says 'no verbal agreements will be honored' and his response was that I needed to trust him. I reluctantly agreed.
A day later, I called Milford and inquired about getting the wiper fixed, he got his boss Sal on the phone, Sal assured me Belfower service would call me, which they did.
As soon as my schedule allowed, I made an appointment with STG Belfower, they asked for me to send a pic of the broken wiper, which I did. Belflower STG is the closest to me, but still 25m away, but again, Milford had promised to take care of my gas so it was only my time.
A 1hr drive there, and then I waited 4 hr until Wendy (very helpful) from service finally called to tell me they could not get the part that day. I said the whole point was that I'd sent them a pic a week earlier so that they could have the part on hand. She said that the part would be in tomorrow so I could leave the car or come back tomorrow. Neither of those worked for me, so I had to drive home in the rain with no rear wiper 1.5 hr home
Total of 6.5 hrs of wasted time. Before I drove home, I texted Sal (Milford's boss at Kar Genie) relayed what a bad experience I had, and that Wendy was told by the Manager on duty at Kar Genie that they never said they'd comer my gas. That was 3 hr ago, no reply.
I've included a screen shot of an online store that sells the part for $12, so you can see how totally frustrating this is to be contemplating spending $25 in fuel and 2 days of my time for a $12 part.
The only good thing I can say is that my mechanic looked over the car and it's fine, the experience was not

I scheduled an appointment to see a specific vehicle. 2hrs before my appt I received a confirmation/reminder text stating my sales person was getting the car ready for me. I arrived early for my appt and to my surprise, my sales person wasn't there, his manager wasn't there and the 4 Runner wasn't even there. I drove a long way and I was NOT pleased. The person I spoke with was able to determine the vehicle was delivered to another location 5 hours prior to the reminder text. While the fellow I spoke with was nice, apologetic and wanting to help me, I have no desire to make that trek out to see the 4 Runner they still had available. The worst part is I continued to receive auto generated texts stating, ".....what can I do to make things easier for you? I haven't been able to connect with you. How soon will you be able to stop by?" Really?!?!

I like to thank the manager Jorge and sales rep Eric who contacted me verbally on the phone and through email and through text. You don't know how much that meant to me but the most important thing I was treated with respect and courteous. S o i l y of a family member and we laugh to have fun but they got me a car a good one I would highly recommend Kar in Montclair which is in Pomona California. I travel so many miles to get there but when I left I was not disappointed I'm very grateful because in the past most car dealers dealerships want to give me the run around they want to run my credit they want to make me feel like I'm less than but not a Car Genie they make you feel like you right at home.
