JC's British have done a great job maintaining 3 cars for us: an old 1993 Range Rover, my current 2004 Land Rover Discovery and my wife's 2008 Land Rover LR2. I bought all of these second hand, with good service records, but older and they have required some looking after. JC's has always identified what was causing problems I was experiencing, checked for problems I might not be aware of, told me what needed to be repaired for safety and what could be postponed or skipped. They are the best!

I replaced a failing RCM with a used, but working unit from a non-NAS vehicle. it was throwing codes complaining about the "passenger airbag cut-off disable switch" which NAS vehicles don't even have. I asked them to diagnose it and if maybe the firmware on the module needed to be updated for a NAS vehicle. to which they replied: "we can't flash the firmware, and it'll need a new RCM. $1300 installed." on top of the $200 I paid for that lame, half-hearted diagnosis.
Afterwards, I contacted Gap Diagnostics (maker of the heralded GAP IIDTool which i own) and explained my issue. they promptly provided the latest NAS firmware for the module and instructions on how to flash it. welp, that fixed it!
lessons learned:
- Avoid JC's like the plague. I'm sure my issue rarely comes up (putting non-NAS parts in a NAS vehicle), but come on guys.. listen to your customers and have an open mind about problem resolution. And if you're reading this JC's, you ought to consider partnering with Gap Diagnostics as they clearly have knowledge and tools that would expand your service department's capabilities.
- Always consult Gap Diagnostics before escalating to a dealer as they're more knowledgeable, convenient, and helpful.
