I had a battery that was barely starting my car, so I took it to AAA. They showed on their electric sign that checking the battery was free. But the truth was that for every "free" check they would charge $75 for some work that I did not ask them to do or even want them to do. One would think that this is against the law. I am a AAA member, but I will never go back there.
I wonder how many others have had the same issue.

Although it took a little longer than i expected, i enjoyed my wait time by having a convo with one of the insurance/travel people. What i didn't like is checking out with all the up-sell of products/services by the car care people. It makes me not trust them and makes me want to go somewhere else.

Wayne and Terry at Kildaire Farms AAA Car Care Center went above and beyond and took the time to diagnose my emission system light problem, when two Honda dealerships could not narrow it down, did not complete work they said did. Wayne and Terry made sure I was clearly informed about what real parts I would need and how the other Honda service techs clearly did not do what they claimed to.

I told the agent that I would take care of the needed wipers and tail light, but at checkout, I discovered that AAA did those repairs anyway. Not only that surprise cost, but I learned next day that one of the screws was left out of the light assembly.
