2000 Saturn L-Series Review

Written by Nick Kurczewski

The 2000 Saturn L Series is available as a five-seat midsize sedan and wagon. New for the 2000 model year, the L Series is meant to give Saturn owners a means to step up from its range of smaller, compact models, including the SL sedan and SW wagon.

Serving as the standard drivetrain is a 137-horsepower 2.2-liter 4-cylinder that’s coupled to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission; the wagon comes solely with the automatic. Optional with either body style is a 182-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 that pairs only with the automatic. Performance is noticeably stronger with the V6, but the 4-cylinder has the edge when it comes to fuel economy.

Cargo volume is generous in either model: The sedan’s roomy trunk measures in at 17.5 cubic feet of space, while the wagon has 29.4 cubic feet of stowage behind its backseat.

Maintenance so expensive that I can't afford to buy another car

Spending an average of almost $400 per month keeping this thing going. Saturn (the company) went out of business a long time ago so whenever anything breaks, I have to get third-party parts if those parts can even be found.

Best car I have ever owned. I wish they still made them

I had this car for 23 year. No big problems. I drove it out of the showroom. Fell in love with it on the 1st drive. I sold it n Nov 2023 for a Chevy Trax. I have wanted to kick myself for ever trading it in.
