As usual, Sam's was understaffed. The wait at the counter for someone to acknowledge you was more than 15 minutes. This is typical with my prior 4 experiences, and requires you to go back to the window where they can see you before someone will come out (usually with an attitude). The main person this evening was doing everything he could but it was obvious his colleague (yes, only 2 people for a very busy Sam's location) was a liability.
The auto center has declined so bad post COVID and it's obvious they keep it open to satisfy revenue and margin targets at the expense of poor customer experiences. During my last several encounters all of us in line waiting were voicing the same concern...clearly a pattern.
As an FYI, you can longer call the auto center directly. Instead, ALL calls are routed off shore to a call center. On a recent booking I was told they should have booked my service because they don't even have person to perform the service on that day. On another occasion the off shore rep could not find how to schedule my service since it was not tires. After numerous calls to a local manager and district rep, they admitted it is causing horrible satisfaction issues, and it's all about saving money and squeezing what they can out of each location. How great the workers can focus on autos, but what about the customers who cannot schedule service or reach anyone?
Here's a novel idea - how about Sam's hiring one of the excellent disabled people or former military person, who can serve as the desk manager, taking all calls for scheduling, pickup, Q&A, etc. My bet, this will cut into margins. They probably also have an issue with hiring disabled people. All retailers say they don't but have you ever wondered why this practical idea (a massive win/win for both) is not adopted by all the major retailers?
In summary, Sam's is only concerned with driving revenue with new sales! Once you're a customer they care nothing about your future needs, despite their promoting and promises during the sales process (I.e., tire rotation, battery test, balancing, etc.). They lure you in then drop the ball!! Any other auto retailer works just as hard on satisfying you post sale.
