About Infiniti
Officially introduced in 1987, Infiniti is Nissan’s upscale brand in a similar way that Lexus is for Toyota and Acura for Honda. Infiniti tends to be slow to introduce new models, choosing to refresh or update older vehicles instead. It’s also best known for its VQ series of V6 engines that first debuted in 1995.
As the new millennium began, Infiniti maintained a lineup of four core models including the G20 compact sedan, I30 midsize sedan, Q45 full-size sedan, and QX4 SUV The G20 was replaced with the G35 in 2003 and Infiniti introduced a few new SUVs with the sporty FX and full-size QX56. By the later parts of the 2000s, Infiniti’s lineup grew again with more sedans and coupes such as the G37 and M35. By 2010, Infiniti started to focus more on SUVs, introducing the new entry-level EX35 and more powerful EX37, as well as the V8-powered FX50.
By 2014, Infiniti’s modern “Q” naming structure arrived with “Q” signifying a sedan and “QX” correlating to an SUV. Currently, the brand’s modern lineup skews toward SUVs with options such as the QX50, QX55, QX60, and QX80. The Q50 is now the only sedan that’s on sale, while the Q60 is a stylish two-door sports car. Both of these are older vehicles that were first introduced back in 2014.
Despite Nissan’s early entry into electric vehicles, Infiniti doesn’t have any electrified vehicles on sale. The automaker used to offer hybrid versions of the M35, Q70, Q50, and QX60, but the hybrid powertrain disappeared by 2018.
