2016 Takata Airbag Recalls for Volkswagen

February 10, 2016 – Volkswagen released a recall on about 680,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to potentially defective driver’s side airbags. The problem concerns Takada airbag inflators, which were made without moisture-absorbing desiccants and are potentially dangerous.

Models affected:

  • 2006-2010 Model Year Volkswagen Passat Sedan and Wagon (German Production)
  • 2012-2014 Model Year Volkswagen Eos
  • 2010-2014 Model Year Volkswagen Golf
  • 2010-2014 Model Year Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen
  • 2012-2014 Model Year Volkswagen Passat (U.S. Production)
  • 2009-2014 Model Year Volkswagen CC

2016 VW Recall News

June 24, 2016 – Volkswagen released a recall on about 5,658 vehicles in the U.S. due to potential issues with the child safety locks in rear doors.

June 6, 2016 – Volkswagen issued a recall on about 55 U.S. vehicles due to potential issues with the cylinder head in certain engines – a potential manufacturing defect that could result in fuel leakage.

Models affected:

  • 2016 Volkswagen Golf
  • 2016 Volkswagen Jetta
  • 2016 Volkswagen Passat

May 23, 2016 – Volkswagen released a recall on about 11 vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential error printed into the safety certification label concerning the rear axle weight limit.

Model affected:

  • 2016 Volkswagen Golf R

March 24, 2016 – Volkswagen recalled around 46,700 U.S. vehicles due to potential defects in the braking system.

Model affected:

  • 2011-2016 Volkswagen Touareg

March 7, 2016 – Volkswagen issued a recall on about 5,561 electric vehicles in the U.S. due to potential issues with the battery management software.

Model affected:

  • 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf

January 28, 2016 – Volkswagen recalled approximately 734 U.S. vehicles of the 2015 model year due to potential defects in Takata airbag inflators built into the side airbag deployment systems.
