2013 MAZDA CX-5
The 2013 model year had an engine that was a bit undersized. We hoped it would meet our needs (towing a small teardrop trailer), but steep mountain passes were too much for it, due to the low horsepower and the high RPM range of the maximum torque. But for a basic baby hauler it would be great. There was much less road noise driving it than in the RAV4 or CR-V.
2013 MAZDA CX-5
Allthough I have driven my Mazda for only 2 Months I can tell that the love connection will only grow stronger. The fuel efficient engine has enough power to provide a great ride.
Used Mazda CX-5 Information
The Mazda CX-5 is a fuel-efficient five-door compact crossover celebrated as a performance leader, even in a highly competitive segment. Introduced for the 2013 model year, the CX-5 is Mazda's mid-dwelling crossover, sandwiched between the subcompact CX-3 and the midsize CX-9. The CX-5 is the first vehicle to utilize Mazda's Skyactiv technology suite, which includes fuel-efficient powertrains and a lightweight platform.
The Mazda CX-5 is available in three trim levels. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available as an option.
The base CX-5 Sport is equipped with a 155-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. When equipped with the standard six-speed manual transmission, fuel economy equates to an impressive 26 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. The Sport model is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, halogen headlights, a Bluetooth-equipped sound system and more. A six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive are available.
The midgrade CX-5 Touring is powered by a 184-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Once again, all-wheel drive is an available option. The Touring model adds halogen fog lights, a six-way power driver's seat, blind spot monitoring, a Mazda Connect infotainment system, upgraded cloth upholstery, a 40-20-40 split-folding rear seat and more. Fuel economy remains impressive at 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway with front-wheel drive.
The top-trim CX-5 Grand Touring uses the same 2.5-liter engine and transmission and achieves the same fuel economy as the Touring model. The nicely equipped Grand Touring model builds on the Touring trim by adding 19-inch alloy wheels, a power-sliding glass moonroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, leather-trimmed seats, a nine-speaker Bose surround sound audio system, an eight-way power driver's seat, heated front seats and much more. The CX-5 Grand Touring is also available as an all-wheel drive vehicle.
When equipped with the available Smart City Brake Support, the 2016 Mazda CX-5 receives a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The 2016 Mazda CX-5 earned four out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for its overall performance in crash tests. That overall score is comprised of a four-star rating in front crash and rollover tests, as well as five stars in side crash tests.
