2000 MAZDA 626
We bought this car because it was cheap up front, and low mileage with only 111,000 miles and figured the engine was good for up to 280,000 plus miles. I knew it had issues when I bought it that would need to be repaired. But the one thing I did not count on was the transmission problem we had. When I test drove it, I noticed that going from reverse to Drive it took a little bit for it to shift. That ended up being a $2400 fix. The positive thing is the shop I went to puts a two year warranty on their work, and since they have experience with this transmission, they upgraded several of the parts. They claimed they have not seen a repeat customer once they rebuilt this transmission, and their BBB rating is A+. This transmission is just poor quality out of the mfg, and is shared with the Fort Taurus. This was the automatic transmission on the 2.0L engine. The manual transmissions are different and do not have this problem. I don't know if the 2.5L Auto has this problem or not. Otherwise it is a good car, which is why I am giving it a 3 star rating. But plan on eventually rebuilding this transmission if you buy the automatic with a 2.0L engine.
