1984 CHEVROLET CAMARO
Z-28, 305ci HO (hi output), 84 is the last year of 4bbl carb before fuel injection. The 4bbl is faster than the 85-88 cars. Fast, slot car handling, sporty and affordable Camaro. A very low wind drag design similar to the shape of NASCAR cars and late model oval racers. Some 84 had electrical harness probs when new but that would be fixed by now on any car. Brakes do need better aftermarket parts so when rebuilding do upgrade to the best you can find..rotors especially. The 305 engine is what it is..no use to try to spend a lot to get more power out of it. If you want more than o to a crate engine replacement. T Tips are nice but are best when the weatherstrip is new and fresh. Don't carry them in the back deck..unless down on the floor..not good to have em fly fwd in a quick stop or crash. NO AIR bags in this era of cars. Install and use good seat belts. This era of any car was all choked up with Calif emissions rules thus low horsepower. If allowed in your state get rid of all the smog equip and retune..a huge power gain to be had. This is a 5 speed manual with limited slip,(must use gm diff oil additive !!) much more fun than the auto trans. Fed mandate 85mph. speedo can be rebuilt to a 160 mph speedo. Install new beefy wider goodyear eagle tires. The hood and back deck are VERY heavy..dont get bonked by a fallin hood or deck if a gas strut fails..prop em up. Premium fuel only. Fun car on twisty roads. It is not quite the muscle car era or perf but also not the price.
