1981 CHEVROLET CORVETTE
the 81 Corvette "shark", called a C3 series vette, is a sleek design, coupes only (no convert ) and the last year of the 4bbl before injection returned to the vette in 82. The 350 engine was all choked up with calif emissions, and a low comp ratio, thus power reduced; this can be remedied if your state allows for this 30 yr old car, to remove all the smog incl the catalytic, and let the car breathe. An edelbrock performer series cam, carb and intake and a new chip with HEI Accel distrib etc will put the power back. Proper alignment is critical to handling: a "darty" steerin feel is likely due to an align issue..front and rear. Wheel bearings, esp rear, are a weak point..often easier to buy and install the entire hub assy with bearings already installed..rear axle yokes also. A newer better radiator will help running hot issues. Cabin heat from the engine and exhaust also an issue, easily fixed with modern cool-mat insulation. headlite door issues are fixed with a vacuum kit: the C3 vettes are fun. and a lot less $$. Plenty of parts avail. IMHO the vette design is overlooked in this model and will increase in val. Not cheap to restore tho: maybe best to buy someone elses completely restored C3 : vette. Expect to pay about 15-18K for a really good one..more if perfect, less if you will need to do some mech or paint or interior. These are good cars for resto-mod as no one cares much about originality.
