The Scion xB is designed for the modern driver, whether you are a young college student or youthful grandmother who loves to be seen. The car’s unique box shape (which you will either love or hate) is just the start of why this car has been such a hit over the past decade. With plenty of cargo space, the xB might well serve as an affordable alternative to a compact SUV.

Introduced in 2003, the first-generation xB models were first sold in California before moving on to other large markets such as Florida. Between 2004 and 2005 the Scion xB was made available nationwide. Two trim levels are available for the Scion xB: the base and Release Series 9.0. In addition, seven color choices are available for the exterior, including Absolutely Red, Super White, and Nautical Blue Metallic.

When buying a used Scion xB, there are a number of models to choose from, and they’re all worthy of your consideration. We suggest that you start with the 2008 models for your used car purchase. This year introduced the second-generation xB, which offered a larger, more spacious cabin and cargo space, as well as upgrades to the interior and the exterior design. The 2010 model was also redesigned and added new features to the full bag.

Standard amenities add even more charm and appeal to the already stylish Scion xB. Among the features offered on the current xB are tilt steering wheel, Pioneer six-speaker premium audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, and temperature control. If you like to take your friends along, doing so in the xB is fun and easy.

The vehicle seats four passengers comfortably, and even offers 60/40 fold-down seats to give even more room when it is needed. Passengers enjoy a comfortable ride in the Scion, and there is room for you to pack along your overnight bag when you head out for a night of camping. The xB is equipped with more standard features than you might expect at such a low cost. Fifteen-inch wheels are standard, as are other fun perks like keyless entry, LED turn signal mirrors, and dual sun visors with vanity mirrors.

According to the US Department of Energy, the Scion xB saves more than $500 in fuel costs over five years of ownership. Although it has a small fuel tank, you won’t be stopping regularly to fuel up and can count on going the distance in your vehicle. You can travel 302 miles on a tank of fuel. For drivers who depend on a fuel-efficient car to help them cut costs, the xB certainly delivers.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2013 xB its “Top Safety Pick,” so as you can imagine it fared well in all of its crash tests. The 2014 xB scored the highest rating of GOOD for front moderate overlap, side, roof strength and head restraints and seats. Front and rear side airbags, driver and front passenger airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and the LATCH system are among the standard safety features included to give you peace of mind with your xB.

  • The Star Safety System is found inside of the new Scion xB, and for drivers who want to be as safe as possible when they’re behind the wheel, this offers assurance and comfort. Vehicle stability control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop Technology are among the offerings with the Star Safety System.
  • Car and Driver awarded the 2008 Scion xB as one of the “Top 10 Safest Vehicles under $25,000.”
  • Among the optional features offered for the current Scion xB are a rumbly TRD exhaust system, rear bumper appliqué, and many others.

The Scion xB is a unique, feature-filled car with plenty of standard features and numerous low-cost options. It is a great car for those looking for something fresh, modern, and stylish, without a steep price tag.
