The Scion iM offers hatchback versatility and a strong list of standard features. Good fuel economy, attractive styling and straightforward pricing also make it a competitive entry within the compact car segment.
Scion iM Overview
Introduced for the 2016 model year, the Scion iM is a compact car that’s closely related to the Toyota Corolla. While the Corolla is available only as a sedan, the iM differentiates itself with an angular exterior design and a five-door hatchback body style.
Only one engine is offered with the Scion iM: a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that produces 137 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission are standard. An optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) features a Sport mode and a manual shift mode.
The iM gets an EPA-estimated 27/36 mpg city/highway with the six-speed manual, which is pretty good for the class. You’ll get slightly better fuel economy by choosing the CVT, which boosts its EPA estimates to 28/37 mpg.
Inside, the iM features a modern design and materials that are appropriate for the class. There’s room for five in the iM’s cabin, which includes front sport seats, 60/40 split-folding rear seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Cargo space is about average for the class, with 20.8 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats.
The iM’s exterior highlights include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and taillights, projector-beam headlights and power-folding sideview mirrors. Standard interior features include automatic headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and a Display Audio system with a 7-inch screen. Eight air bags, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes and a rearview camera are among the Scion iM’s safety features.
In addition to the Toyota Corolla, the Scion iM can be cross-shopped with models like the Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf. Models like the Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic and Subaru Impreza might also be considered.
