COLUMBIA, Mo. (July 8, 2010) – Carfax is making room for more data and more jobs in Columbia, Mo. The company has purchased a four-acre parcel of land adjacent to its existing data center on Maguire Blvd. Planning is underway to expand the existing facility that houses the Carfax database and more than 150 employees.

“Carfax is committed to providing used car buyers and sellers with the information they need to make informed decisions,” said Gary Lee, chief technology officer at Carfax. “It all starts with our data center. We’re proud to extend our roots in Columbia, but more important, continue to support the community we’ve called home for a quarter century.”

The company operates two data centers within the city to maintain its database – the largest vehicle history database ever assembled – comprising over 8 billion unique vehicle records. Operations at the Maguire Blvd. facility focus on product development, as well as data storage and maintenance. Carfax was founded in Columbia, Mo. in 1986 and is currently headquartered in the metro area of Washington, D.C.

Carfax also is helping to further establish the area as one of the nation’s premiere technology centers. In addition to its own expansion, the company made a portion of the four-acre parcel available to help secure the new IBM technology service delivery center.
