Home////2017 Porsche Macan Review

The 2017 Porsche Macan is a compact luxury SUV that bears the burnished glow of Porsche’s legendary talents. The Macan delights and entertains with crisp, sharp handling, and it coddles with a swank interior that is replete with European opulence.

For 2017, the Porsche Macan expands its lineup of trims to five. Also, the list of standard features across all trims now includes parking sensors, a rearview camera, lane-departure warning and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. A new touch-screen interface has been added, and it brings improved response and more attractive graphics.

Porsche’s Macan seats five, and it comes with standard all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Five trims are sold: base, S, GTS, Turbo and Turbo with Performance package.

The Macan’s sporty lines and curves exhibit Porsche’s unmistakable design signature. In front, a sloping hood is chiseled with sharp creases, and standard automatic bi-xenon headlights brighten the path ahead. Matte-black window trim and rear privacy glass are visible in profile, and a view from the back reveals LED taillights and dual single-tube tailpipes with a silver finish.

Base models are equipped with 18-inch wheels, privacy glass, a power tailgate, fog lights and LED daytime running lights. The list of upgrades includes LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, dynamic and static cornering lights, running boards, roof rails and black door handles.

You’ll find ample luxury within the 2017 Porsche Macan’s interior. Premium materials cover most nooks and crannies, and things get even more plush if you choose from the crossover’s long list of extended leather upgrades. The front seats offer lots of support and comfort, but space in the rear seat is limited. Pickings are slim when it comes to cargo capacity, and the Macan offers just 17.7 cubic feet with the rear seats in place. Fold the rear seats, and this figure expands to 53 cubic feet.

Base-model Macans come with three-zone climate control, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, 40/20/40-split folding rear seats and partial leather upholstery. You can upgrade your Macan with 18-way power-adjustable adaptive seats, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, extended leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel.

When it comes to driving dynamics, the 2017 Porsche Macan excels in all aspects. The Macan provides blistering acceleration and precise handling, and it’s also comfortable enough to provide agreeable transportation on suburban streets.

Base models come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, and this power plant has an EPA rating of 20/25 mpg city/highway.

The Macan S comes with a twin-turbo V6 that provides 340 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque, and it achieves mileage of 17/23 mpg. The GTS uses the same V6 and has the same fuel efficiency, but the engine has been tuned to provide 360 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

The Macan Turbo is motivated by a 3.6-liter turbocharged V6 that generates 400 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, and it has an EPA rating of 17/23 mpg. In the top-of-the-line Turbo with Performance package trim, this engine achieves the same fuel economy but is tuned to provide output of 440 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque.

The Porsche Macan is capable of towing up to 4,409 pounds.

The Macan comes with a rich assortment of technology features. Base models are equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, a 7-inch touch-screen display, two USB slots, two SD card slots, 11 GB of internal jukebox storage, a rearview camera, front and rear park assist and lane departure assist. Upgrades include a premium Bose stereo, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist and lane keep assist.
