The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is an entry-level luxury sedan that works harder than most to earn your consideration. With stunning sheet metal, a long list of standard features, attractive engine choices and perks such as free vehicle pickup and delivery for service visits, this sedan brings a lot to the table.
For 2017, the MKZ benefits from enhancements that include a revised front fascia and an updated interior. A new optional V6 joins the lineup, and the base engine gets a slight power upgrade from 240 to 245 horsepower. Finally, Lincoln’s Sync 3 infotainment system has been added to the list of standard features for 2017.
The Lincoln MKZ provides seating for five. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is offered as an option. Buyers have the choice of four trims: Premiere, Select, Reserve and Black Label.
All aspects of the 2017 Lincoln MKZ’s exterior exude power and assuredness. Up front, a one-piece satin-aluminum grille features a repeating Lincoln Star motif, and is tilted upward at an assertive angle. A side view reveals the car’s gorgeous wheels. Eighteen-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels are standard on base models, and 19- and 20-inch wheels are available. A view from the back reveals standard dual chrome exhaust tips and slim tail lamps that span the entire rear fascia.
Base models feature adaptive xenon headlights, heated mirrors, LED taillights and rear parking sensors. Available features include LED headlights, a power trunk lid and power-folding side mirrors.
The MKZ’s cabin melds premium materials with stylish design. Cargo volume stands at 15.4 cubic feet with most models, but this figure dips to 11.1 cubic feet with the MKZ Hybrid to accommodate that car’s battery pack.
Base MKZ models come with dual-zone automatic climate control, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. Available features include leather upholstery, authentic wood trim, multi-contour front seats with massage, a panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel.
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ provides peppy performance, regardless of engine choice. Three powertrains are offered. The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four provides 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and scores an EPA rating of 21/31 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive and 20/28 mpg with all-wheel drive. A twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 delivers 350 horsepower with front-wheel drive and 400 horsepower with all-wheel drive, and 400 pound-feet of torque is provided with both drivetrains. The EPA rates this engine at 18/27 mpg with front-wheel drive and 17/26 mpg with all-wheel drive.
The final powertrain is a hybrid featuring a 2.0-liter inline four paired with an electric motor to provide total of 188 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque. Hybrid models are only available with front-wheel drive and achieve fuel economy of 41/38 mpg.
Both gas-only engines are matched with a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Hybrids are governed by a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The base MKZ features push-button start, voice controls, Sync 3 infotainment with an 8-inch touch screen, two USB ports, an audio input jack, a rearview camera, satellite radio and an 11-speaker sound system. Options include a navigation system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, active park assist and a premium Revel sound system.
