Though the Infiniti G series is being rebranded as the Q for 2014, it remains a great entry-level luxury series if you are looking for a car with modern styling, great performance, and plenty of available features. You can choose from a sedan, coupe, or convertible and either all-wheel or rear-wheel drive.


The Infiniti G series prides itself on both variety and performance, and it shows with a playful yet refined exterior and interior design. Driver assistance technology in the car includes a rearview camera and 3-D graphics on its navigation system. The 2013 model saw very few updates with the exception of some minor design tweaks and the removal of both the 4-cylinder G25 Sedan and basic model coupe were removed from the line.

Reviews of the 2013 G Series praise the entire line on its energetic driving ability and sporty high-performance attitude. The Intelligent All-Wheel Drive monitors data from the car like wheel spin, throttle position, and driving speed to automatically adjust power when and where you need it—enhancing traction and driver control in even the worst weather. The Traction control System is also there to automatically reduce your engine output while the Vehicle Dynamic Control helps correct over- or under-steering.

The electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission comes with Adaptive Shift Control and Drive Sport modes—an adaptive algorithm learns your driving style and will adjust your automatic shift to keep your drive more consistent.

Exterior features for the G Series include HID bi-functional xenon headlights, front fog lights, LED rear brake lights, heated outside mirrors, speed-sensing windshield wipers, and dual chrome exhaust finishers. Interior standards are leather-appointed seating, an 8-way power driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support, an 8-way power front-passenger’s seat, an occupant memory system that remembers driver settings like seat and steering wheel placement and mirror adjustments via your Infiniti Intelligent key, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 6-speaker audio system with speed-sensitive volume control.

The Infiniti isn’t short on options. The Hard Drive Navigation system comes with voice recognition, NavTraffic, weather updates, and restraint ratings with the Zagat survey. The 7-inch high-res screen has also garnered praise from critics as being not only beautiful to look at but easy to use. Features like the Birdview perspective control and enhanced 3D graphics make the navigation tool simple to follow and easy to use.

Standard features include: front dial zone A/C, power windows, illuminated entry, telescoping/tilting steering wheel, garage door transmitter, automatic temperature control, speed control, remote keyless entry, wireless Bluetooth connectivity, and a diversity antenna.


The 2013 G Series received a ranking of “Good” for side impact test results by the IIHS as well as a 5 out of 5 star rating by the NHTSA for rollover.

The G Series comes with the Infinite Advanced Air Bag System comes with dual-stage front supplemental air bags, seat belt sensors, and an occupant-sensing airbag that adjusts airbag inflation rate based on the projected severity of the crash. Front seat-mounted side impact air bags, a roof-mounted curtain side-impact airbag, and front-seat Active Head Restraints all come standard.

Other standard safety and security features include brake assist, ignition disable, electronic stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes, a panic alarm, and a security system.


J.D. Power rates the 2013 the G Series as “Among the Best” in Overall Quality, Overall Mechanical Quality, Body & Interior Mechanical Quality, and Features and Accessories Quality.

The G Series is available with a sound system to make even the most fanatical audiophile drool. Called the “Infiniti Studio on Wheels,” the Infiniti team claims to have taken over 1,000 acoustic measurement and readings in the car to create the cleanest and richest audio sound available. The Driver’s Audio stage setting allows all of the power of the Bose-created system to focus its power on the driver, turning the driver’s seat into the front row seat wherever you go.
