The 2017 Hyundai Tucson is a compact crossover that provides seating for five passengers. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. The Tucson is sold in SE, SE Plus, Eco, Sport, Night and Limited trims.

For 2017, all Tucsons with cloth interiors add stain-resistant fabric. The Eco and Sport trims welcome console-mounted rear air-conditioning vents, and the Sport trim adds upgraded materials for its door panels. In the Limited trim, newly available content includes Android Auto/Apple CarPlay smartphone integration and a 315-watt Infinity premium audio system with Clari-Fi music-restoration technology.

Exterior

Exterior

Modern and athletic, the Tucson's exterior is highlighted by a bold, hexagonal grille, dramatic C-shaped fog-light pockets and rugged cladding for its wheel arches and side sills. Those wheel wells hold sharp-looking 17-inch alloy wheels as standard content. Standard as well are heated power-adjustable exterior mirrors, a driver’s side blind-spot mirror, an LED center high-mounted stop light, a rear spoiler and automatic projector-style halogen headlights.

The list of optional exterior upgrades includes 19-inch wheels, roof-rack side rails, gloss-black exterior mirror caps, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a chrome grille, chrome door handles, front fog lights, a panoramic tilt-and-slide sunroof, LED headlights and taillights, HID xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights.

Interior

Interior

The Tucson's cabin offers a wealth of attractive details, with a two-piece, driver-focused dash and a wing-like arrangement of HVAC vents and controls that frame its center-stack display screen. All Tucson trims have a standard 60/40-split rear seat for storage versatility. With that seat in its upright position, owners benefit from 31 cubic feet of cargo space, and this can be expanded to 61.9 cubic feet by folding the back seat.

Standard features include stain-resistant cloth upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, reclining rear seats and a rear center armrest. Available upgrades include aluminum-alloy sport pedals, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated front seats, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and power-adjustable front seats.

Performance

Performance

The Tucson furnishes a fairly refined driving experience, and an available multi-mode drive system allows you to customize the crossover's driving dynamics. The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes 164 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, and for brisker acceleration, the available 1.6-liter turbo engine produces 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The two engines have their own transmissions, too, as the standard unit is paired with a six-speed automatic and the turbocharged engine is matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Owners can add all-wheel-drive to any Tucson trim.

The Tucson’s EPA ratings range from 26/32 mpg city/highway with the front-wheel drive and the turbocharged engine to 21/26 mpg with all-wheel drive and the 2.0-liter power plant.
