2016 Takata Airbag Recalls

June 30, 2016 – The NHTSA released new test information indicating that the probability of unsafe rupture in Takata air bag inflators during airbag deployment is as high as 50 percent in certain 2001-2003 Honda vehicles.

May 27, 2016 – In late May, American Honda announced that about 4.5 million vehicles require passenger-side airbag inflator replacements due to an absence of moisture-absorbing desiccants in Takata airbags, which help prevent malfunction.

February 3, 2016 – Honda issued a recall on 2.23 million vehicles in the U.S. due to defects in Takata driver front airbag inflators.

  • 2009-2014 Honda Fit
  • 2010-2014 Honda FCX Clarity
  • 2010-2014 Honda Insight
  • 2011-2015 Honda CR-Z

2016 Recall News:

June 6, 2016 –Honda recalled 39 SUVs and minivans of recent model years, in order to replace the fuel tanks. Certain vehicles did not receive the proper welding on their fuel tanks, which increases the chance of fuel leakage and fire hazard.

  • 2015-2016 Honda Odyssey
  • 2016 Honda Pilot

April 8, 2016 – American Honda issued a recall on about 11,600 Accords from the 2004-2007 model years in order to inspect and replace passenger front airbag modules, an issue found while addressing Takata airbag inflator recalls.

  • 2004-2007 Honda Accord

February 23, 2016 – As of February, Honda released a stop-sale and recall of more than 42,000 Honda Civics in the U.S. A number of 2016 Civics built with 2.0-liter engines were found to have potential issues involving their piston pins.

  • 2016 Honda Civic (2.0-liter)

February 3, 2016 – Honda recalled over 340,000 Accord Sedans in the U.S. due to potential issues with the electronic airbag control unit, which affects airbag deployment.

2015 Recall News (Updated)

As of late 2015, Honda announced that it will not partner with Takata for the installation of airbag inflators in new car models because of alleged misrepresentation of data during safety tests.

Honda Recalls 2015: Takata Airbag Recall Update

Honda has open recalls on over five million cars, including Acura models, as part of the Takata Airbag recall. A list of every year, make and model of Honda and Acura vehicles affected by this recall is included below.

This recall was expanded as of May 2015 with the announcement that approximately 34 million cars on US roads are equipped with defective airbags manufactured by Takata. Vehicles first sold or registered in high humidity areas such as Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands are part of the recall as high humidity has been identified as one of the problems for some Takata airbag installations.

As of November 2015, the Honda and Acura models affected by the Takata recall are::

  • 2001-2007 Accord
  • 2001-2005 Civic
  • 2003-2005 Civic Hybrid
  • 2001-2004 CNG
  • 2002-2006 CR-V

Honda Recalls 2014: List of Major News

In November 2014, Honda issued recall notices on some model year 2001-2006 Honda and Acura vehicles originally sold or registered in 13 U.S. states and territories that consistently experience high humidity.

June recalls included replacing one or both front driver's and passenger's airbag inflators in some Civic, CR-V, Odyssey, Accord, Element and Pilot models.

In May, Honda recalled certain Odyssey vehicles regarding the side curtain airbag system on some 2014 models.
