The 2017 Ford Mustang competes in the modern-day muscle car segment with fastback coupe and convertible body styles. It offers athletic handling and three powerful engine choices, as well as a user-friendly infotainment system with some of the latest tech features.

Ford offers the 2017 Mustang in five basic grades: V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT and GT Premium. There’s also a pair of Shelby models: The Shelby GT350 and GT350R.

A V6 engine is standard in the base Mustang, while EcoBoost editions rely on a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Mustang GT and GT Premium carry a V8 power plant. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on all models, while a six-speed automatic is available.

For 2017, the Mustang’s available Sync 3 infotainment system gains Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.



The current-generation Mustang combines both 21st-century design cues and retro styling elements from past versions. Thus, the 2017 Mustang has the classic sequential rear turn signals, but now they’re LED tri-bar tail lamps that are complemented by HID headlights and tri-bar LED front accent lights. In hardtop models, the fastback silhouette also recalls an iconic look of the original Mustang.

The base Mustang comes standard with automatic headlights, a dual exhaust system and body-colored sideview mirrors with integrated blind spot mirrors. A rear spoiler and LED fog lights are optional, while Mustang GTs wear air-extractor hood vents and hood-mounted, secondary turn signals, while the Shelby GT350 variants showcase distinctive aero upgrades with a large front splitter and a carbon-fiber rear wing. V6 models come standard with 17-inch wheels, while 18- through 20-inch wheel choices are further available for the Mustang, as are a variety of striping packages.



The cabin of the 2017 Mustang is an athletic environment that includes a standard auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth upholstery, keyless entry with push-button start and a center console with a full armrest. The rear row features two smallish, split-folding rear seats. The Mustang coupe offers 13.5 cubic feet of trunk space, while convertibles furnish 11.4 cubic feet.

A number of interior upgrades are available, including a power-adjustable front seats, Recaro sport seats, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery and dual-zone automatic climate control.



With three engine choices, the 2017 Mustang can satisfy your need for speed in a number of ways. The standard V6 delivers 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while the GT’s V8 ups the ante to 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The Mustang EcoBoost’s turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine supplies 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission are standard across the board, while a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters is optional.

Shelby GT350 and GT350R models come with a 5.2-liter V8 that delivers 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. That engine is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.

Fuel economy for the base Mustang stands at an EPA-estimated 18/27 mpg city/highway. The EcoBoost model delivers the best fuel economy in the lineup, with EPA ratings of 21/30 mpg with either transmission.



The Mustang’s fun-to-drive focus also extends to its technology. For example, “Track Apps” is standard on entry-level cars to help drivers keep an eye on important performance metrics such as g-force and acceleration times. Mustang GT drivers can additionally leverage Track App performance enhancers such as launch control and electric line lock.

Ford’s voice-activated Sync system, Bluetooth, two USB ports and a rearview camera are standard on all Mustangs. Jumping up to the EcoBoost Premium or GT Premium trim level adds tech features like an upgraded audio system, satellite radio, an 8-inch touch screen and the Sync 3 infotainment system, which brings in the latest smartphone integration technology.

Available driver-assistance features include rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and forward collision warning.
