Dodge Dart

Dodge Dart

Dodge resurrected the Dart name for the 2013 model year, with the Dodge Dart compact four-door sedan. The original Dart was built by Dodge from 1960 to 1976, starting off as a full-size model and quickly evolving into a compact by 1963.

Dodge Dart Overview

The Dart represents Dodge’s first new compact car since the Dodge Neon was discontinued in 2005. Three engine choices are offered on this front-wheel drive model. The base Dodge Dart comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that creates 160 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The base 2.0-liter can be paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

A turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine offers the same 160 horsepower but ups the torque rating to 184 pound-feet. The turbo-four comes with the six-speed manual or an optional six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Dart’s top engine choice is a Tigershark 2.4-liter four-cylinder that creates 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The 2.4-liter is available with either the six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, depending on the trim level.

Although the trim choices have varied over the Dart’s production, the model is currently available in five trim levels: SE, SXT, Aero, GT and Limited. SXT models can be powered by either the 2.0- or 2.4-liter engine, while the Dart Aero gets the turbocharged 1.4-liter. GT and Limited models come with the 2.4-liter engine.

The Dodge Dart offers seating for five and 13.1 cubic feet of trunk space. The base model is sparsely equipped, though features like a USB port, Bluetooth, navigation, proximity key with push-button start, leather upholstery, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are available as options or on higher trims. Driver assistance features like a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are also available.

The Dodge Dart is a consistent Top Safety Pick award recipient from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Dodge Dart has also earned a top overall five-star rating year after year from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The compact car segment is loaded with a number of compelling choices, and the Dodge Dart can be cross shopped with models like the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Jetta.
