Customers can choose from eight main trim levels: WT, LS, Custom, LT, LT Z71, LTZ, LTZ Z71 and High Country. Three cab styles and three bed lengths are offered. The four-door crew cab seats six and comes with either a 6-foot-6-inch or a 5-foot-8-inch bed.

For 2017, a Teen Driver system that tracks and improves the habits of younger drivers is now standard, and low-speed forward automatic braking is now optional. All Silverados gain a capless fuel filler, and two more exterior colors (Graphite Metallic and Pepperdust Metallic) are on the menu.

Up front, the 2017 Silverado showcases a broad, vertical grille. There is bold sculpting on its hood, and the Silverado's flanks have prominent, squared-off wheel arches. Standard features include 17-inch painted steel wheels, LED daytime running lights, HID projector-beam headlights, a cab-mounted cargo light and a rear bumper with an integrated step that makes it easier to enter and exit the bed.

The list of options includes side steps, spray-in bed liner, black-molded splash guards, chrome front and rear bumpers, deep-tinted glass, LED lighting for the cargo box, LED fog lamps, heated power-adjustable side mirrors, cargo tie-downs, recovery hooks and 18-, 20- and 22-inch wheels.

An impressively detailed cabin is standard in all Silverado trims, with interior door-handle pockets that echo the shape of the truck’s center-stack control interface. The standard seating configuration for the regular-cab Silverado includes a 40/20/40-split front bench. Extended-cab and crew-cab models add a rear bench for six-occupant capacity, with the crew cab offering noticeably more rear-seat headroom and legroom.

The base WT trim targets work-truck customers, and standard features include manual air conditioning, a tilt-adjustable steering column and power windows and door locks. The list of available features includes dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, a heated steering wheel and power-adjustable pedals.

Performance

Performance

Three powerful engines ensure superior pickup-style capabilities for the Silverado 1500. The truck’s standard engine is a 4.3-liter V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. An available 5.3-liter V8 raises output to 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the top-rated engine for the Silverado, a 6.2-liter V8, generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard. All trims can be ordered with four-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic transmission is available. The Silverado can tow up to 12,500 pounds.

Fuel-economy ratings for the 2017 Silverado start at 18/24 mpg city/highway with the standard powertrain. At the other end of the spectrum, the most powerful V8 earns EPA grades of up to 15/21 mpg city/highway.
