Cadillac XT5 Overview
Introduced for the 2017 model year, the Cadillac XT5 is a small luxury crossover with seating for five. The front-wheel-drive XT5 is powered by 3.6-liter V6 engine delivering 310 horsepower. All-wheel drive is available as an option, and all XT5 models use an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Cadillac’s sole engine choice is powerful and relatively efficient for the luxury crossover segment. The power plant utilizes technology to optimize fuel economy. Enhancements include variable valve timing, auto start/stop technology and cylinder deactivation. The XT5’s all-wheel drive system is equally impressive. A series of clutches disengage power delivery to the rear wheels when they aren’t deemed necessary for optimal performance, and additional clutches control each of the rear wheels for further refinement. The result is better efficiency all around and superior traction when it is needed.
The XT5’s nicely appointed cabin is modern and attractive. Cadillac has purposefully taken the XT5 upmarket with a bold new interior that emphasizes technology, luxury and comfort. Base models feature an infotainment center, USB ports, wireless smartphone charging and Bluetooth. The hand-cut-and-sewn seating is complemented with real wood trim pieces. Higher trim levels receive leather seating, a micro suede headliner, a leather-wrapped instrument panel and many other high-end appointments. Standard safety features include a rearview camera.
Top trim models include a full battery of driver assistance features, including a head-up display, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert and more. Top trims also come with features like larger alloy wheels, heated rear seats and a nifty rearview mirror that has a built-in video screen projecting the scene behind the bumper.
The Cadillac XT5 competes in a segment that includes the BMW X3, Mercedes Benz GLC, Lexus NX, Acura RDX, Lincoln MKX and Audi Q5. Other noteworthy rivals include the Jaguar F-Pace, Porsche Macan and Land Rover Discovery Sport.
