2017 Buick Regal Review

The Buick brand has made it its mission to offer vehicles that provide premium amenities at relatively affordable prices, and the 2017 Buick Regal delivers on both these counts. The Regal's key strengths are its strong feature content and pleasant driving dynamics, and it's worth a look if you're seeking a sedan that offers solid value.

The Buick Regal is a midsize sedan that accommodates five passengers, and it's offered in five trims, ranging from the base Regal 1SV to the top Regal GS. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available, and buyers can choose between two engines.

For 2017, the Buick Regal adds Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration as a standard feature. Also, new exterior colors join the lineup: Graphite Gray Metallic, Black Cherry Metallic and Pepperdust Metallic.

The Regal's sheet metal is elegant, but it definitely leans toward the conservative side of the design spectrum. A black grille with a bright chrome surround leads the way up front, and it's bordered by standard automatic halogen headlights. Heated body-color power-adjustable side mirrors with integrated turn signals give the driver a clear view on either side, and 18-inch wheels help ground the car to the pavement.

The list of standard features includes LED daytime running lights, halogen fog lamps and bright moldings that surround the windows. Available upgrades include 19-inch or 20-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, a sunroof and bi-xenon HID headlights.

Interior

Interior

When it comes to the appearance of its cabin, the 2017 Buick Regal straddles the ground between entry-luxury models and affordable midsize sedans. The car's interior is pleasant and attractive, with a roomy front row and good materials quality. Open the trunk and you'll enjoy 14.2 cubic feet of capacity.

Base models come with dual-zone automatic climate control, a center armrest in the second row, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, split-folding rear seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, leather upholstery, a manually adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column and a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. You can dress up your Regal with sport pedals, memory settings for the driver's seat and side mirrors, an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat and a heated steering wheel.

Performance

Performance

The 2017 Buick Regal provides forgiving ride quality, and its optional turbocharged engine serves up satisfying acceleration. Front-wheel drive is standard, and available all-wheel drive provides a handling advantage in rain and snow. All models are governed by a six-speed automatic transmission.

Base models are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, and this power plant achieves EPA-rated mileage of 19/30 mpg city/highway. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is also available, and it provides output of 259 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This engine achieves mileage of up to 21/29 mpg.
