The BMW M2 is the high-performance variant of BMW’s 2 Series. It’s a small sports coupe that offers memorable driving dynamics and a sleek exterior.

BMW M2 Overview

BMW’s M2 first hit the market in 2016. It’s based on the manufacturer’s 2 Series coupe, and it enhances this model’s offerings with performance upgrades such as increased horsepower and a stiffer suspension.

The M2 accommodates four passengers. Its sheet metal is notable for a modern, athletic look that telegraphs the car’s impressive performance capabilities. The front fascia features angled xenon headlights and BMW’s handsome kidney-shaped grille. The M2 distinguishes itself from the 2 Series with its M rear spoiler and M side gill with M2 badging.

Under the hood, you’ll find a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 365 horsepower. All models are rear-wheel drive, and buyers may choose between a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

M cars are known for providing world-class performance, and the BMW M2 doesn’t disappoint in this regard. The engine has the muscle to deliver blistering acceleration, and driving dynamics are sharp and engaging. Keep in mind, though, that like many performance cars, the M2’s suspension can be a bit firm in daily driving.

The M2’s cabin features heavily bolstered front seats that keep you snugly in place during driving maneuvers. The interior puts a sporty spin on BMW luxury, with contrasting stitching, faux-suede panels and M2 badging. The front seats are reasonably roomy, but most adults will find the back row to be short on space.

Look to the BMW M2 for a broad array of standard amenities. All models come with leather upholstery, heated front seats, keyless entry and ignition, navigation and satellite radio. The list of upgrades includes a heated steering wheel and a Wi-Fi hot spot, along with active safety features such as forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning.

The BMW M2 competes with small luxury performance cars like the Audi S3, Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 coupe and Cadillac ATS-V coupe. There isn’t a loser among this bunch, but the M2 makes a lasting impact due to its stellar handling.
