2016 BMW 7 Series Review

The 2016 BMW 7 Series is this manufacturer's flagship sedan. All new for 2016, the 7 Series embodies all the luxury and refinement for which BMW is known. Its opulent cabin is a treasure trove of futuristic convenience and technology amenities, and its driving dynamics expertly balance comfort and performance.

BMW has redesigned the 7 Series for 2016. This full-size sedan now rides on a longer standard wheelbase that creates more room for rear passengers. The 7 Series also receives a standard adaptive air suspension with an available camera-based predictive program that evaluates road conditions in real time and immediately uses this data to tweak suspension settings for the smoothest ride. The 2016 7 Series adds new innovations in available driver-assistive technology, and it also ushers in leading-edge tech amenities such as an available Touch Command Tablet that allows passengers in the second row to govern a host of vehicle functions.

The 2016 BMW 7 Series seats five. Rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive (xDrive) is available. Two trims are offered: 740i and 750i.

Every panel of the 7 Series' exterior exudes moneyed sophistication. In front, BMW's trademark kidney grille is flanked by standard LED headlights. From the side, the 7 Series shows off standard 18-inch wheels and standard power-folding heated side mirrors. A rear perspective reveals the sedan's standard hands-free power trunk lid.

Base models are equipped with LED fog lights, run-flat tires, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and daytime running lights. The list of available features includes a black kidney grill, 19- and 20-inch wheels and an upgraded sunroof offering larger dimensions and LED accents.

The 7 Series' cabin is a high-tech wonderland, chock full of all the latest amenities. It's also incredibly spacious, and second-row passengers enjoy copious amounts of legroom. A gargantuan trunk provides 18.2 cubic feet of capacity for your belongings.

Base models come with 10-way power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery. a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic four-zone climate control, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and heated front seats. You can upgrade your 7 Series with massaging front and rear seats, ventilated front and rear seats, a steering wheel with wood accents, a heated steering wheel and heated armrests.

The 2016 BMW 7 Series provides handling that's sharper than its generous dimensions suggest. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive is available with the 750i trim.

The 740i is motivated by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine good for 320 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. With this engine, the 2016 7 Series has an EPA rating of 21/29 mpg city/highway.

The 750i features a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that generates 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Its fuel economy stands at 17/25 mpg with rear-wheel drive and 16/24 mpg with all-wheel drive.

The 2016 BMW 7 Series provides access to a dazzling array of automotive technology. Base models come with a 10.2-inch central display, a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, wireless smartphone charging, satellite radio, a CD player, dual USB ports, Wi-Fi hot spot capability and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. The list of standard features also includes BMW's Gesture Control, and this technology uses a 3D sensor to allow the driver to control certain functions via a series of pre-selected hand movements.

Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane departure intervention, automated parking, blind spot monitoring, a head-up display, forward collision mitigation and a surround-view camera.
