The Best New Compact Luxury SUVs
A small luxury SUV has more passenger and cargo space than a small luxury sedan without giving up its premium accommodations. Compact luxury SUVs may not be able to match the size of midsize luxury SUVs, but they are more maneuverable, more fuel-uxefficient, and easier to park. Most compact SUVs in this ranking cost between $40,000 and $50,000 when new.
Note: Some vehicles on this list may be from a previous model year but they are still available as new models. Sometimes automakers are slow to update specs and pricing. Other times they may be redesigning a model or have excess inventory.
How We Ranked These Small Luxury SUVs
1. 2024 Genesis GV70
- Price: $44,900
- What We Like: 300 hp is best-in-class; below-average price; great 10-year powertrain warranty; sleek design
- What We Don’t: Infotainment system could be more intuitive
Like all Genesis vehicles, the GV70 offers incredible value without skimping on anything. Aside from not having the most intuitive infotainment system, it’s hard to find fault with this Genesis crossover. The GV70 is well-priced, boasts good head-turning looks, and its standard turbo-4 engine delivers a best-in-class 300 horsepower.
The GV70 features a handsome interior, a giant touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and sufficient room for passengers and cargo. AWD is standard; if the base engine isn’t enough, opt for a robust 375-horsepower twin-turbocharged V6.
Shopping for a Used GV70?
The GV70 was a brand-new luxury crossover for the 2022 model year and heads into 2024 with only minor changes.
2. 2024 Volvo XC60
- Price: $46,450
- What We Like: Great crash-test scores; attractive inside and out; 63.3 cu ft cargo area, second-best in class; 26 mpg; powerful plug-in hybrid model
- What We Don’t: Not much
The Volvo XC60 features two roomy rows of seats, one of the largest cargo holds in the class, and competitive fuel economy estimates. It’s also easy on the eyes and has a modern, premium interior. This Volvo compact luxury SUV has strong crash-test ratings and comes equipped with a wealth of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS).
The XC60’s standard powertrain is a turbo-4 with a mild-hybrid system that combines to make 247 horsepower. You can also choose a supercharged version of the same setup with 295 horsepower or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that cranks out 400 horsepower.
Shopping for a Used XC60?
The XC60 was last redesigned in 2018, though it received an exterior refresh for 2022. You can save by considering older model years or a certified pre-owned Volvo, but make sure it has the features you need.
3. 2024 Acura RDX
- Price: $44,050
- What We Like: Below-average price; sporty; excellent crash-test scores
- What We Don’t: Frustrating infotainment controls; only 23 mpg
The Acura RDX is a solid option if you’re in the market for a sporty compact crossover with a reasonable starting price. It has a handsome exterior, comfortable accommodations for five passengers, and one of the most powerful base engines in the class, though it’s not very fuel-efficient, and there’s no available engine upgrade.
This Acura compact luxury SUV earns excellent safety scores and has a full suite of ADAS features and a healthy assortment of standard niceties. However, its infotainment system can prove frustrating to operate.
Shopping for a Used RDX?
Acura refreshed the RDX inside and out for the 2022 model year, but it hasn’t changed significantly since its last redesign in 2019. Any used model from 2019-2023 will look similar to the 2024 shown above. Models from before 2019 are less angular and feature a V6 instead of a turbocharged 4-cylinder.
4. 2024 Audi Q5
- Price: $45,795, $51,500 (Sportback)
- What We Like: Good at everything; excellent crash-test scores; powerful SQ5 model
- What We Don’t: The Sportback model costs more and has less cargo space
The Audi Q5 is one of the more well-rounded compact luxury SUVs on the market. It’s safe and comfortable and delivers a welcome balance of luxury and practicality. This Audi doesn’t offer as much cargo space as its rivals, especially in the more expensive Sportback configuration.
Audi’s small luxury SUV comes standard with AWD and a 261-horsepower turbo-4. For enthusiasts, Audi also offers the SQ5 with a 349-horsepower turbocharged V6. A 362-horsepower PHEV is also available. Every Q5 is loaded with the latest technology and ADAS features.
Shopping for a Used Q5?
Q5 models from 2018 onward have similar styling to the 2024 model, though 2021 welcomed a modest exterior refresh. If you’re in the market for the PHEV model, note that it has a battery pack upgrade for 2022, so older models won’t have as much electric range.
5. 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC
- Price: $46,000 est.
- What We Like: Great all-around performance
- What We Don’t: On the pricier side, the coupe model is expensive and small
The two-row GLC compact luxury SUV gets a notable update for the 2023 model year. Based on the similarly-sized C-Class sedan, the new GLC boasts a 12.3-inch digital gauge display and an 11.9-inch infotainment screen in the center of the dash. Fresh and modern looking, the system comes standard with tech goodies such as voice commands, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Available in two main trims, GLC 300 and GLC 300 4Matic, this Mercedes SUV comes with a 258-horsepower turbo 4-cylinder engine that works in cooperation with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Look for a swept-back “coupe” version of the new GLC and more powerful AMG-tuned models.
Shopping for a Used GLC?
The GLC replaced the GLK-Class as a compact luxury SUV entrant in 2016. The AMG performance variants were added in the 2017 and 2018 model years. It received a modest refresh in 2020 and a redesign in 2023.
6. 2024 BMW X3
- Price: $46,900
- What We Like: 62.7 cu ft of cargo space; great mix of comfort and performance; X3 M has class-leading 473 hp
- What We Don’t: Complicated dashboard controls; X3 M is expensive
The BMW X3 delivers a praiseworthy balance of comfort and performance. It’s upscale, fun to drive, and has plenty of room for five passengers and their cargo.
A 248-horsepower turbo-4 is standard, and it returns good fuel economy. The M40i gets a 382-horsepower turbocharged 6-cylinder, and the M model delivers a class-leading 473 horsepower. However, you’ll have to pay at least $70,000 to get into the X3 M.
Like luxury rivals, becoming familiar with the X3’s complex dashboard controls can take time and practice.
Shopping for a Used X3?
The X3 is part of a generation that started with the 2018 model year. It saw refreshed exterior styling and a revised interior layout for 2022, but older models are still similar visually.
7. 2024 Audi Q3
- Price: $37,000
- What We Like: Handsome design; standard AWD
- What We Don’t: Only 184 hp from the base engine; small cargo area
For consumers who want an upscale SUV with a balanced ride, a quiet interior, and high-tech features, the Audi Q3 is worth considering. While the Q3 is the smallest SUV in Audi’s lineup, its cabin shares the same premium materials as the automaker’s larger models. Consumers who live in areas that get inclement weather will appreciate that the Q3 is one of the few subcompact options to come with standard AWD.
While the Q3 isn’t the sportiest SUV in the class, it offers a comfortable ride and well-balanced handling. Keep in mind that the Q3 trails key rivals when it comes to interior space and engine power.
Standard features include an 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital gauge, wireless smartphone charging, a 10-speaker stereo, a power liftgate, leather, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high-beam headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, lane-departure warning, and front and rear parking sensors.
Shopping for a Used Q3?
The Q3 is in its 2nd generation, introduced with the 2019 model. Any 2019-2023 2nd-generation model will be broadly similar to the 2024 Q3, and you can save money by purchasing one of these used SUVs.
8. 2024 BMW X1
- Price: $40,500
- What We Like: Sporty handling; lots of standard features, including AWD
- What We Don’t: Tech can be overwhelming
The completely redone BMW X1 separates itself with its impressive standard features, dynamic handling, a peppy turbocharged engine, and a high-tech infotainment system. In addition to being enjoyable to drive, the X1 delivers a controlled ride over rough pavement.
The X! base model has many features shoppers look for in a subcompact SUV. Standard niceties include AWD, a large touchscreen and digital instrument cluster, navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, and wireless smartphone compatibility. Its standard features include synthetic leather upholstery, 7 audio speakers, adaptive cruise control, ambient interior lighting, and LED headlights. While the SUV has an impressive list of standard tech features, the tech can be hard to learn and use.
Shopping for a Used X1?
The X1 is in its 3rd generation, introduced with the 2023 model. Older X1s that are part of the 2nd-generation (2016-2022) will have a different design and features than the X1 shown above.
9. 2024 Volvo XC40
- Price: $40,100
- What We Like: Good cargo capacity; great crash-test scores; available as an EV
- What We Don’t: Infotainment can be finicky
The Volvo XC40 features high-end design and modern, state-of-the-art amenities. The exterior looks sleek and sculpted, and the cabin is fresh and elegant. That interior is also one of the more spacious in a subcompact luxury SUV, with ample room for passengers and a cargo area that swells to 57.5 cubic feet when the backseat is lowered.
Buyers can choose from 2 powertrains, including the 247-horsepower B5. The most muscular option, though, is also the greenest and cleanest: the all-electric Recharge powertrain, which provides 402 horsepower. Gas XC40 buyers can choose between FWD and AWD, while the Recharge is only available with AWD.
As far as shortcomings go, the XC40’s ride gets somewhat stiff if you opt for the larger wheels, and the touchscreen’s sluggish response and small on-screen buttons can make operating the infotainment system challenging.
The base trim is a solid bet if you appreciate good value. It has 18-inch wheels, roof rails, a power tailgate, and LED headlights. The cabin is home to dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. The XC40 Core has lane-keeping assist, road sign information, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.
Shopping for a Used XC40?
The XC40 is in its 1st generation, introduced with the 2019 model. Any older 1st-generation model (2019-2023) will be broadly similar to the 2024 XC40, and you can save money by purchasing one of these used SUVs.
10. 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA
- Price: $41,850
- What We Like: Premium vehicle for the money
- What We Don’t: Rivals are roomier
The Mercedes GLA feels premium while boasting one of the lowest starting prices of any luxury SUV. The GLA is available in two trims: GLA 250 and AMG GLA 35. The base GLA 250 is powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine making 221 horsepower. The GLA 35 has a 302-horsepower engine. All trims have an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and buyers can choose between FWD and AWD. The base model delivers a smooth ride and pleasant handling. The AMG trim has adaptive suspension and upgraded brakes to deliver sportier handling.
Shopping for a Used GLA?
Mercedes gave the GLA a slight refresh and more equipment for the 2024 model year, and they took away the top-end AMG GLA 45 engine option. Besides that, any used GLA from 2021 on will be similar to the new model pictured above. The GLA is in its second generation; the previous generation ran from 2014-2020.
11. 2024 Infiniti QX50
- Price: $40,850
- What We Like: Low price; class-leading 65.1 cu ft of cargo space
- What We Don’t: So-so engine power
The QX50 boasts a low starting price, class-leading cargo capacity, and comfortable seating for five passengers in two rows. It also has a classy, well-equipped interior with high-quality materials. Its lone 268-horsepower turbo-4 gets the job done, though it’s not likely to blow you away.
This Infiniti compact luxury SUV earns good crash test ratings and comes standard with many ADAS features. It also has a long list of tech features, including wireless Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system, with its two touchscreens, takes some time to get used to.
Shopping for a Used QX50?
The QX50’s last major redesign was in 2019, and models produced since then are virtually identical to the 2024 shown above.
12. 2024 Lincoln Corsair
- Price: $38,730
- What We Like: Compact SUV for a subcompact price; 250 hp; plug-in hybrid option
- What We Don’t: Not as sporty as rivals
The Lincoln Corsair stands out with its energetic engine choices, well-balanced ride and handling, and an ample assortment of standard features, including many of the latest connectivity and driver-assist features.
It can be powered by either a 250-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine or a 295-horsepower 2.3-liter turbo-4, both with standard front-wheel drive (FWD) or optional all-wheel drive (AWD). A plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Grand Touring trim pairs a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors, combining to produce 266 horsepower and an electric-only range of 28 miles. This version comes with standard AWD.
The Corsair comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 10-speaker stereo, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and rear parking sensors.
Shopping for a Used Corsair?
The Corsair debuted in 2020. Despite a light refresh for 2023, all used models are nearly identical to the 2024 shown above. Before Lincoln sold the Corsair, their compact SUV was called the MKC (2015-2019), which is also worth a look on the used market.
13. 2024 Lexus NX
- Price: $40,605
- What We Like: Below-average price; excellent reliability history; top mpg in base, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions
- What We Don’t: Only 203 hp with base engine; small cargo area
The Lexus NX combines a history of top-notch safety and reliability ratings with excellent fuel economy estimates. It’s available as a traditional gas-powered SUV, a hybrid, and a PHEV. While the NX is equipped with many safety and convenience features, it still comes at a reasonable starting price.
This Lexus compact crossover isn’t notably sporty or powerful, but it’s quiet, smooth, and peppy enough for daily driving. The NX features an upscale cabin that comfortably seats five passengers, though cargo space is limited.
Shopping for a Used NX?
Lexus completely redesigned the NX for 2022. It arrived for the 2015 model year and only received minor updates between 2015 and 2021. You can save by considering older model years or a certified pre-owned Lexus.
14. 2024 Lexus UX
- Price: $36,690
- What We Like: Hybrid that gets 42 mpg
- What We Don’t: Small interior; weak acceleration
All Lexus UX SUVs have a 181-horsepower hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission. Buyers can choose between FWD and AWD.
Given its hybrid credentials, the UX offers exceptional fuel economy. It’s rated up to 42 mpg combined, making it one of the top picks for drivers who value frugal gas consumption.
The UX also impresses with its smooth ride, making it an excellent choice for a commuter vehicle. In addition, this SUV stands out with a deluxe cabin that’s both stylish and tasteful, with impressive fit and finish and high-quality materials.
This Lexus has some shortcomings, including a scant 17.1 cubic feet of space behind the backseat; many vehicles in this class have more cargo space. Also, though this SUV’s powertrain wins points for being thrifty, acceleration is sluggish.
The base trim is a solid bet for value. It has 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its list of standard driver aids includes lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, blind spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Shopping for a Used UX?
The UX is in its 1st generation, introduced with the 2019 model. Any older 1st-generation model (2019-2022) will be broadly similar to the UX shown above, although Lexus only makes hybrid UX models starting in 2023.
15. 2024 Cadillac XT5
- Price: $43,895
- What We Like: 63 cu ft cargo area
- What We Don’t: Not as luxurious as rivals
Cadillac’s XT5 is not as luxurious as its rivals, but it does have a generous assortment of appealing standard technology features and advanced safety systems. The XT5 also offers a well-built interior, two rows of spacious seats, and a large cargo area.
This Caddy crossover’s base turbo-4 engine returns good gas mileage and makes 235 horsepower. While the base engine delivers sufficient acceleration, the available 310-horsepower V6 is a better option for highway driving.
Shopping for a Used XT5?
The XT5 has been on the market since the 2017 model year, and it’s practically the same crossover it was at its launch. The only notable changes came in 2020 when a new infotainment system and the turbo-4 base engine arrived.
16. 2024 Cadillac XT4
- Price: $37,895
- What We Like: Decent interior space; easy-to-use infotainment system
- What We Don’t: Not as luxurious as rivals
Even though the XT4 is Cadillac’s smallest SUV, its second row is spacious enough for adults, making it a good pick if you need a small SUV with a roomy interior.
All XT4s, from the base Luxury to the upscale Premium Luxury, have a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine under the hood, generating 235 horsepower. A 9-speed automatic transmission shifts the gears, and buyers can choose between front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD).
The XT4 is a leader in its class for cargo capacity, and it boasts an impressive infotainment system. The setup is easy to use, with sharp graphics and a responsive touchscreen.
There are some shortcomings to consider, including this SUV’s engine. The 4-cylinder delivers mediocre acceleration, and it gets noisy when pushed. The XT4’s cabin doesn’t quite measure up to luxury vehicle standards, either.
The base Luxury trim is a good pick for value. It has dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.
Shopping for a Used XT4?
The 2024 XT4 is part of the SUV’s 1st generation, introduced with the 2019 model. Any older 1st-generation model (2019-2023) will be broadly similar to the 2024 XT4, and you can save money by purchasing one of these used SUVs.
17. 2024 Infiniti QX55
- Price: $50,000
- What We Like: Stylish
- What We Don’t: All of the negatives of the Infiniti QX50 plus less space and a higher price
Essentially, the “coupe” version of the QX50, Infiniti QX55, is nice to look at, but its high MSRP pushes it to the bottom half of our list. Like the Infiniti QX50, the QX55 only has one engine option and is not very powerful. In addition, the QX55 has less space than its sibling. Thanks to its sweeping roofline, taller riders may feel cramped in the second row. Even though it’s a new model, its infotainment system is unimpressive.
On the flip side, this Infiniti crossover comes standard with AWD, has a nice interior, and has ultra-supportive seats. The QX55 has a healthy array of tech and safety features, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and automatic high beams.
Shopping for a Used QX55?
The QX55 was a brand-new luxury compact SUV for the 2022 model year.
18. 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB
- Price: $44,450
- What We Like: Low price; 62 cu ft of cargo space; 28 mpg; available with a 3rd row
- What We Don’t: Not as fast or stylish as the GLC; 4-star NHTSA crash test score
The GLB is fuel-efficient, has a roomy cargo hold and its starting price is reasonable, especially for a Mercedes. The GLB is also one of the few small luxury SUVs with an optional third row.
The GLB isn’t as powerful or stylish as the more expensive GLC, but it offers an attractive, high-quality cabin with plenty of standard infotainment features. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the GLB earns 4 out of 5 stars in crash tests, which is unusual compared with its classmates. However, it does come equipped with multiple ADAS features.
Shopping for a Used GLB?
The GLB debuted in 2020 and hasn’t changed much since. The 2021 model brought standard blind spot monitoring, and the AMG GLB 35 joined the lineup. The 2024 model delivered a light styling refresh.
19. 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale
- Price: $42,995
- Fuel Economy: 77 MPGe*
- Battery-only Range: 30 miles
- What We Like: Stylish exterior and interior, punchy hybrid powertrain, 30-mile all-electric range
- What We Don’t: Handling could be more precise
Drivers looking for something livelier, greener, and a bit offbeat in the small crossover SUV segment should consider the new-for-2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale, a subcompact, luxury plug-in hybrid SUV that seats five people. It’s distinctively styled, with Alfa’s shield-shaped grille flanked up front by narrow, horizontal compound LED headlights. The 285-horsepower 1.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, and gas/electric hybrid powertrain deliver sufficient pep. As a plug-in hybrid, the Tonale can travel up to 30 miles solely on battery power, after which it operates as a conventional hybrid with the electric motor augmenting the gas engine. Selectable driving modes, a 6-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive (AWD), and several driver-assist features are standard.
The Tonale rides and handles well, but it’s not as engaging as its larger sibling, the Stelvio. The interior, however, is nicely executed and comes with ambient lighting. What’s more, the Tonale is the first production vehicle to come with an NFT (non-fungible token) digital certificate to certify authenticity and ownership.
Shopping for a Used Tonale?
This is the first model year for the Tonale, so there are no older models to be found. A used Alfa Romeo Stelvio might suffice as an alternative, provided it checks out mechanically and passes a title search.
20. 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
- Price: $49,900
- What We Like: Good combination of on- and off-road performance
- What We Don’t: Pricey; sacrifices space for style; poor reputation for reliability
The Range Rover Evoque is one of the few SUVs on our list designed with off-roading in mind, though it also delivers a comfortable on-road driving experience. It’s also sleek and refined but not as spacious or practical as most classmates. Moreover, the Evoque is expensive and has a poor track record for reliability.
The Evoque features tons of technology, an abundance of ADAS features, and a feature-rich infotainment system. Power comes from a strong 246-horsepower turbo-4, and the Evoque is agile and fun to drive.
Shopping for a Used Range Rover Evoque?
The Range Rover Evoque was fully redesigned for 2020, though it received plenty of updates for 2021 and 2022. The 2024 model received a new infotainment system.
21. 2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio
- Price: $45,375
- What We Like: Fast and nimble
- What We Don’t: Above-average price; poor history of reliability
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio isn’t the cheapest or most reliable small luxury SUV, but it’s lively, dynamic, and unique. It’s more like a sports car than a typical crossover. At 280 horsepower, the Stelvio’s base engine is one of the strongest in the class. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio, which is nearly double the base model’s price, features a twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 505 horsepower.
The Stelvio provides seating for five passengers. While there’s much more cargo capacity than you’ll find in most sports cars, the space pales compared to rival SUVs. The Stelvio has a generous assortment of tech, convenience, and ADAS features as standard.
Shopping for a Used Stelvio?
The Stelvio debuted in 2018 and hasn’t changed much since. However, features were added in 2020 and 2022, and 2024 saw a light styling update and new infotainment tech, so check each used model carefully. Older models won’t have as many standard ADAS features.
22. 2024 Porsche Macan
- Price: $60,900
- What We Like: Stellar performance
- What We Don’t: Very expensive; only 52.9 cu ft of cargo space; 21 mpg
The Porsche Macan is more expensive and less practical than most competing compact luxury SUVs, but it’s sure to stand out in a crowd. It comes standard with AWD and delivers engaging performance. Inside, the Macan has an opulent interior with comfortable seating for five, though cargo space is limited.
Three engine options are available in the Macan, ranging from the standard 261-horsepower turbo-4 to a twin-turbo V6 that cranks out 434 horsepower. All powertrains impress with their acceleration, but they’re not fuel sippers.
Shopping for a Used Macan?
The Macan’s styling hasn’t changed significantly since its 2015 debut, so models from that year to the 2022 model year should look similar. The 2022 Macan had an updated base engine and new standard features.
23. 2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport
- Price: $48,900
- What We Like: Great off-road; above-average cargo space
- What We Don’t: Most rivals have more available horsepower; only 20 mpg; poor reputation for reliability
Like the Range Rover Evoque, the Discovery Sport has a handsome cabin and solid off-road capability. This Land Rover is larger than its sibling, with more cargo space and an available third row. It’s also reasonably priced, especially for a Land Rover. However, it returns subpar gas mileage and has a reputation for poor reliability.
A 246-horsepower turbo-4 is the lone engine option in the Discovery Sport. It struggles to get up to speed, but it can tow a maximum of 4,409 pounds when properly equipped. Notable standard features in the Discovery Sport include a user-friendly touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless device charging, and multiple advanced safety aids.
Shopping for a Used Discovery Sport?
All Discovery Sport models, going back to its 2015 debut, have similar styling, though the 2020 model received numerous tech updates, the 2022 model arrived with new standard features, and the 2024 model received a new infotainment system.
24. 2024 Jaguar E-Pace
- Price: $49,500
- What We Like: Sporty
- What We Don’t: Only 49.5 cu ft of cargo space; poor reputation for reliability
The Jaguar E-Pace is a compact luxury crossover that rides and drives like a sports sedan. It comes standard with AWD and delivers dynamic handling and eager acceleration. It also has a first-rate interior that’s relatively accommodating. This Jaguar offers a large touchscreen that’s easy to use, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a premium audio system, and a decent array of key ADAS features.
The E-Pace’s standard powertrain is a turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 246 horsepower but doesn’t return competitive fuel economy. And the E-Pace has a history of poor reliability.
Shopping for a Used E-Pace?
The E-Pace debuted in 2018 and hasn’t changed significantly since, though it lost the 296-horsepower engine option for 2023.
25. 2024 BMW X4
- Price: $55,000
- What We Like: Fast and agile
- What We Don’t: Smaller than the X3 and way more expensive
While the BMW X4 delivers strong performance, it’s much less practical than the X3 and significantly more expensive. The X4’s coupe-like styling cuts into interior space, its cargo area is small for the class, and its ride may be too firm for some people’s tastes.
If you’re not looking for practicality, the X4 may appeal to you thanks to its sporty design, adept cornering, responsive steering, standard AWD, and potent engine options. It also has an elegant interior, intuitive infotainment technology, and a host of ADAS features.
Shopping for a Used X4?
The X4 debuted in 2015 and received its last complete redesign for the 2019 model year. The 2022 model arrived with updated exterior styling and a revised interior. X4 M and M Competition trims arrived in 2020, and 2021 saw the debut of Android Auto and new standard ADAS features.
26. 2024 Jaguar F-Pace
- Price: $57,000
- What We Like: Great handling and acceleration; 550 hp SVR; 69.1 cu ft of cargo space is good for a 2-row luxury SUV
- What We Don’t: Base 246 hp is below average; costs $100K-plus when fully loaded
The F-Pace has distinctive looks and capabilities. It’s elegant, comfortable, fun to drive, and offers plenty of space for five passengers and their gear. On the flip side, it’s expensive, especially as you move up the trim ladder, and its standard engine only makes 246 horsepower.
Available engines include a turbocharged and supercharged 6-cylinder and the supercharged V8 in the SVR model that makes 550 horsepower. All-wheel drive comes standard in the F-Pace, along with a host of technology and ADAS features.
Shopping for a Used F-Pace?
2017-2023 F-Pace models have similar styling and similar feature availability; you can save by considering older model years. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto arrived for 2019, and 2021 brought a refresh inside and out.
