How We Ranked These Cars

If you like beefy V8s with straight-line speed, you don’t have to get a classic muscle car from the 1960s or 70s. There are plenty of muscle cars on the market today that provide more power than ever – at an affordable price, too.

There are also some cars you might not have thought of as muscle cars, but that check one or more of the boxes: below-average price tag, big engine, rear-wheel drive, and/or American, to name a few.

We’ve compiled a list of popular new and used muscle cars. To qualify, the vehicles needed to have at least 400 horsepower, a new price tag below $65,000, and be less than 10 years old.

You’ll notice that some of our picks are unusual. As technology has changed and the automotive market has shifted, we think the modern muscle car concept deserves a few dark horse candidates, along with the tried-and-true lineup of big-bodied American V8 rides. We’ve ordered our list to start with the cars that check the most muscle car boxes, and end with the cars that check the fewest.

Since many of these models have not changed much over the years, you may get a muscle car for considerably less than a new model by searching our Used Car Listings. In addition, check each vehicle’s Carfax Vehicle History Report.
