Best Station Wagons Available in 2025

With the rise in SUV popularity, fewer manufacturers still make a station wagon. But just because they’re rarer doesn’t mean you should overlook them. Here is every wagon available, listed from least to most expensive.

How We Rank Vehicles

1. 2025 Subaru Outback

  • Price: $28,895
  • Pros: Spacious cabin, standard AWD, gentle ride
  • Cons: Weak base engine, coarse transmission

The Subaru Outback has you covered if you’re looking for a midsize SUV with a spacious cabin. Front-seat passengers enjoy excellent headroom and legroom, and the backseat easily accommodates adults. Cargo room is outstanding, with up to 75.6 cubic feet of space. Subaru has tuned the Outback’s suspension to deliver a gentle ride, making it great for commuting. Standard AWD provides added traction on roads slick with rain or snow. The Outback misses the mark in a couple of areas. Its base engine is weak, so we recommend the optional engine upgrade, and its transmission is unrefined. It gets noisy under hard acceleration.

2. 2024 Mini Clubman

  • Price: $34,050
  • Pros:Agile handling, impressive cargo room
  • Cons: Stiff ride, one of the most expensive cars in its class

The Clubman is worth considering if responsible handling is a priority. It’s quick and lively, energetic enough to add something special to every daily commute. This Mini offers more cargo room than one might expect from a subcompact car: 17.5 cubic feet of space with all seats in place and 47.9 cubic feet with the backseat folded. The Clubman won’t be ideal for everybody. It has a somewhat stiff ride and is one of the most expensive vehicles in its segment.

3. 2025 Audi A4 Allroad

  • Price: $47,600
  • Pros: Nicely styled, comfortable cabin, well-balanced ride and handling and standard AWD, good fuel economy
  • Cons: No manual transmission, some competitors are sportier, could use more backseat room and cargo space

Long a big seller in Audi’s lineup, the A4 Allroad is a sharp-looking, upscale wagon that’s attractive, comfortable, and capable. The A4 offers a standard AWD system, good fuel economy, a high-end interior, a balanced ride, and a roomy backseat. Keep in mind, it trails rivals when it comes to handling capability, engine performance, transmission refinement, and exterior styling. And while its ride is comfortable and there’s balanced handling, some rivals deliver sharper, more engaging handling that makes them more enjoyable to drive. The A4 also has a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that can be slow to downshift at low speeds.

4. 2025 Volvo V60

  • Price: $50,300
  • Pros: Many standard features, stylish cabin, efficient plug-in hybrid version
  • Cons: Rivals have more user-friendly infotainment systems, firm ride, unsettled shifts, especially at low speeds

The Volvo V60’s exterior design turns heads with chiseled lines and a graceful profile. The cabin is just as stylish as the exterior, treating passengers to posh accommodations and a modern aesthetic. The V60’s list of standard features is extensive. Choose the plug-in hybrid if fuel economy is a priority: It can travel up to 41 miles on electric power alone. With the gas engine in use, combined mileage is 31 mpg. The V60 loses points in some areas: Its ride is firmer than other cars in its class, and competitors have more user-friendly infotainment systems.

5. 2025 Volvo V90

  • Price: $59,800
  • Pros: Many standard features, agile handling, posh cabin
  • Cons: Rivals offer more cargo room, one of the most expensive cars in its class, firm ride

The V90 is a good choice for drivers seeking upscale transportation with lots of room for passengers and cargo. The V90 offers engaging handling, making it a great daily driver. This wagon also has a plush cabin with upmarket materials and a chic design. This Volvo comes equipped with a long list of standard amenities. However, there are a couple of shortcomings to keep in mind. For one, the V90 has a relatively steep price — it’s one of the costliest cars in its class. Also, some competitors offer more cargo space, and this Volvo has a firmer ride than some luxury-car shoppers may want.

6. 2024 Audi A6 Wagon

  • Price: $69,300
  • Pros: Nicely styled, comfortable and well-executed cabin, many standard and available features, rides and handles well
  • Cons: Not as sporty as some rivals, lacks trunk space, confusing infotainment and controls

The Audi A6 has long been a cornerstone model in Audi’s line, known for its deft balance of luxury and performance. It’s recently been updated with refreshed styling and added equipment. Power choices include a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and an available 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Both are mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD).

7. 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon

  • Price: $75,850
  • Pros: Roomy cabin, premium interior, many standard features
  • Cons: Rivals have more engaging handling, infotainment system has a steep learning curve

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a plush, comfortable midsize car for drivers seeking a serene cabin that keeps wind and road noise at bay. The spacious interior offers deluxe accommodations. The styling is elegant, and the materials are high-end. Mercedes-Benz equips the E-Class with numerous standard features. However, there are some weaknesses to consider. While this car’s handling is smooth and pleasant, it’s not as sporty as some rivals. Also, the infotainment system has a steep learning curve.

8. 2024 Porsche Taycan Wagon

  • Price: $101,900
  • Pros: Thrilling handling, swift acceleration, upscale cabin
  • Cons: So-so driving range, rivals have roomier backseats

The Taycan is Porsche’s first all-electric vehicle, and it delivers the lively handling the brand’s gas-powered models are known for. It’s an energetic companion for commuting and road trips, with the power to transform basic travel into something delightful. This car impresses with its swift acceleration; the powertrains in top trims are the most potent, but even the base powertrain is built to impress. In addition, the Taycan treats passengers to a posh cabin decked out with the finest materials. There are a couple of weaknesses to keep in mind: The Taycan’s driving range tops out at 246 miles, which is mediocre among luxury EVs, and rivals have roomier backseats.

Used Porsche Panamera Wagon

  • Pros: Astounding performance, plug-in hybrid version, 690 horsepower available
  • What We Don’t: $$$$$$

The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo can only hold a maximum of 49 cubic feet of cargo and has one of the smaller rear seats. The standard Panamera Sport Turismo 4 has a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine with 335 horsepower. It’s paired with a quick-shifting 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an AWD system. Porsche offers a number of packages, including rear-wheel steering, power steering plus, and extra drive modes to tune the wagon to your liking. The Panamera Sport Turismo 4 lacks standard ADAS features. The lack of physical controls on the inside makes the Panamera Sport Turismo 4’s 12.3-inch infotainment system challenging to use.
