The Best CPO Programs Have Great Warranties & Perks
Buying a used car can save you money compared with buying new, but there’s an element of risk: Your purchase may have problems that you missed while shopping, and you’ll be on the hook to fix them.
That’s why buying a certified pre-owned (CPO) car can make a lot of sense. CPO vehicles are used cars that have been thoroughly inspected and reconditioned by dealers that come with manufacturer-backed warranties. They cost a bit more than the average used car, but it can be worth the extra coin if you want extra peace of mind.
Virtually every major automaker offers a CPO program, but they’re not all the same – they differ on warranty coverage and the perks offered. The 10 programs listed here are the ones that provide the best warranty coverage and the most appealing range of perks.
How We Ranked These Programs
To rank these programs, we gave a weighted edge to the best warranty offers. Next, we evaluated the perks offered. Top scores were given to those CPO programs that offered:
- No deductible for repairs covered by the warranty
- A transferable warranty
- A free Carfax Vehicle History Report
- A return period on CPO purchases
- Free maintenance
- Free roadside assistance
Finally, we came up with a total overall score for each CPO program. Those programs with the highest overall scores earned a place on our list.
