Aiming for the growing market of younger buyers, Toyota is set to unveil two special edition models of the 2016 Toyota Camry and Corolla at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. Both models are aimed at a growing younger demographic with lots of technology and styling features.
2016 Toyota Camry Special Edition
With a recent redesign in 2015 aimed at dramatically changing this moniker, Toyota completely redid the Camry with nearly 2,000 new parts. The result is a much different Camry from the early days with much more attention to styling, features and a more aggressive and sporty powertrain.
The highlight of this aggressive and sporty vision is in the 2016 Toyota Camry SE. With a demographic around 40, according to Toyota, the Camry SE represents a new thinking for the sedan with a sport-tuned suspension, sport mesh front grille and paddle shifters.
Now, Toyota is adding more sport to this trim level with a host of features. These features include 18-inch alloy wheels with gloss black painted accents and two new exterior colors of Blizzard Peal and Blue Streak Metallic. The interior has an updated gauge cluster with blue accents on a white background, as well as blue stitching on the seats, shifter and dash. The seats also are trimmed with black and blue leatherette inserts. New technology in the form of the available Entune Premium Audio system with Navigation and App Suite makes the 2016 Camry SE more driver friendly. Lastly, a power tilt/slide moonroof and smoked tail lamp treatment round out the upgrades.
The 2016 Camry SE will be powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Special Edition model will also come standard with the Star Safety System which includes such things as anti-lock brakes, traction control and electronic brake assist. Toyota plans to build a limited-run of 12,000 models and production will start in August 2015 and run through January 2016. Dealer pre-orders will likely start in early summer with models hitting lots in September.
2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition
Like the Camry, the Toyota Corolla was also recently redesigned with a radical new look. In fact, it was the first of a new design trend for Toyota featuring curvier lines, which surprised many people.
Another thing the current 2015 Toyota Corolla and Camry share is the sporty trim level’s growth among a younger demographic. With this thinking, the Corolla Special Edition will build on the S model’s standard features, which include paddle shifters, a Sport driving mode and sporty interior features. The Corolla Special Edition adds even more sporty items including unique 17-inch alloy wheels with a gloss black finish and three new exterior colors: exclusive Absolutely Red, Black Sand Pearl and Super White. On the inside, Toyota has given the Corolla Special Edition a black interior with red stitching on the seats, dash and door trim. It also features push-button start.
Customers will also be able to add Toyota’s Entune Premium Audio with Navigation and App Suite along with the power tilt/slide moonroof as options.
Like the Camry it will be a limited run with about 8,000 units produced between August and December 2015.
Both models will be unveiled on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 2:30 pm at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show along with a refreshed 2016 Toyota Avalon.
