The Audi Allroad is a mingling of a wagon and a crossover utility vehicle, essentially a midsize raised wagon with a higher ground clearance.
Audi Allroad Overview
Two generations of Audi Allroads have been sold. The first generation was based on the A6 wagon and was marketed from 2001 to 2005. The second generation Audi Allroad comes in smaller and is based on the A4 sedan, making its debut as a 2013 model.
Audi offers the current generation Allroad in Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige editions. Every model offers full-time all-wheel drive with power sent to all four wheels for optimum handling and control. One powertrain combination is offered: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 220 horsepower, which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This model is EPA-rated at 21/28 mpg city/highway and takes premium grade gasoline.
The Audi Allroad offers very good seating up front and fair seating in the back with its restricted legroom. Standard cargo volume is very good, measuring 27.6 cubic feet. This space expands to 50.5 cubic feet with the rear seat folded.
The Allroad comes equipped with automatic Xenon Plus headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED taillights. This model also has a headlight washing system, heated windshield washer nozzles, front and rear fog lights, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a power liftgate, dual exhaust outlets, aluminum roof rails and underbody cladding.
Inside, this raised wagon features a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a tilt and telescopic steering column, leather seats, power accessories, a panoramic sunroof, four 12-volt power outlets, ambient lighting and eight drink holders. A 10-speaker sound system with SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, iPod integration, and an SD card slot are included.
Select the Premium Plus edition and this model brings in power-folding side mirrors, driver seat memory, heated front seats, keyless entry and push-button ignition. Choose the Prestige edition and a voice-controlled navigation system, Bluetooth streaming audio and a parking system with a rear view camera is added.
Every Audi Allroad comes equipped with a suite of air bags, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, traction control and stability control. An available driver assist package brings in adaptive cruise control, drive select modes and dynamic steering. Rear side air bags are also available.
Audi Allroad competitors include the BMW 328i xDrive Sports Wagon and the Volvo V60 Cross Country. The Audi Q5 and Audi Q7 crossovers might also be considered.
