Home////2017 Acura MDX Review

The 2017 Acura MDX is a three-row premium crossover providing reasonably priced luxury and well-rounded competence. Offering ample feature content, pleasing accommodations and confident handling, the MDX is supremely practical, but it’s also attractive and engaging.

Acura’s MDX provides seating for up to seven passengers, and it’s available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. It comes in a single trim that can be upgraded with Entertainment, Technology and Advance packages.

For 2017, the MDX benefits from refreshed sheet metal and receives a bold new diamond pentagon grille. Driver-assistive technologies such as automatic high-beam headlights have been added to the standard features list, along with an electric parking brake. Some of the MDX’s option packages also get additional feature content.

The 2017 Acura MDX’s sheet metal exudes power and confidence. From the front, a sculpted hood marked by deep character lines overlooks standard jewel-eye LED headlights and a self-assured five-cornered grille. A side view reveals standard features such a capless fuel-filler door and side mirrors with LED-integrated turn signals. From the back, the MDX’s standard dual exhaust tips and LED taillights command attention.

Base models come with 18-inch wheels, automatic high beams, a power sunroof, heated side mirrors with reverse-gear tilt-down function and a power-operated tailgate. Available upgrades include 20-inch wheels, power-folding side mirrors, side mirrors with automatic dimming, LED puddle lights and LED fog lights.

The MDX provides a cabin that’s roomy and nicely constructed. Cargo capacity behind the third row stands at 15 cubic feet, and this figure expands to a spacious 38.4 cubic feet with the third row folded. With the second row folded, the MDX offers 68.4 cubic feet for your belongings. A bench seat is standard in the second row, and second-row captain’s chairs that reduce seating capacity from seven to six are available as an option.

Base models are generously equipped and provide leather upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated front seats, a 60/40 split-folding second row, a 50/50-split folding third row, tri-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an electronic tilt-and-telescoping steering column and ambient cabin lighting. Available features include natural wood trim, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats and premium leather upholstery with contrast piping and stitching.

The 2017 Acura MDX provides handling that’s pleasant and responsive. All models come with a 3.5-liter V6 good for 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, and it’s teamed with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The MDX achieves an EPA rating of 19/27 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive and 18/26 mpg with all-wheel drive. An auto stop/start feature is available that boosts city mileage by 1 mpg in city driving with both drivetrains. The MDX tows up to 5,000 pounds.

The base MDX provides an eight-speaker sound system, MP3 compatibility, a CD player, satellite radio, a USB audio interface, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio connectivity, SMS text-message reading and push-button start. An 8-inch color display sits at the top of the center stack, while a 7-inch touch-screen resides directly below it. Standard driver-assistive features include a rearview camera, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation and adaptive cruise control. Available features include a premium 10-speaker sound system, a navigation system, HD radio, a surround-view camera and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
