This CARFAX Vehicle History Report is based only on information supplied to CARFAX and available as of 12/13/18 at 1:22:13 PM (CST). Other information about this vehicle, including problems, may not have been reported to CARFAX. Use this report as one important tool, along with a vehicle inspection and test drive, to make a better decision about your next used car.
Structural Damage
All levels of accidents, from minor to severe, can cause structural damage to a vehicle (i.e., damage to the frame or unibody).
Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tampered with, broken, or replaced.
Manufacturer Buyback or Lemon Title
A DMV or a state agency marks an official document or issues a Manufacturer Buyback/Lemon title when a vehicle has been repurchased by the manufacturer. Not all states issue manufacturer buyback titles and the specific requirements for a lemon law vehicle varies by state.
Structural Damage
All levels of accidents, from minor to severe, can cause structural damage to a vehicle (i.e., damage to the frame or unibody).
Basic Warranty
Most manufacturers offer a basic warranty for new vehicles. These warranties vary by manufacturer and typically last for a certain amount of time and/or a set number of miles.
Loss Due To Fire Title
The vehicle sustained major damage due to fire. In most states, fire damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.
Exceeds Mechanical Limits Title
A vehicle with a 5-digit odometer cannot accurately track mileage after 99,999 miles because the odometer rolls over. This title is the result of a seller certifying under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS of the odometer.
Accident / Damage Indicator
Various events could indicate an accident or damage in a vehicle's history, such as: salvage auction, fire damage, police-reported accident, crash test vehicle, damage disclosure, collision repair facility and automotive recycler records. See the glossary for more information.
Loss Due To Fire Title
The vehicle sustained major damage due to fire. In most states, fire damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.
Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tampered with, broken, or replaced.
Odometer Check
CARFAX analyzes mileage data to help identify potential:
  • Rollbacks - odometer tampering to conceal a car's true mileage (i.e. Fraud or illegal activity)
  • Rollovers - after reaching the maximum reading, the odometer restarts from zero (i.e. Mechanical or equipment limitation)
  • Inconsistencies - conflicting mileage data means CARFAX cannot determine if it's a potential rollback (i.e. Potential human error)
Total Loss
An insurance or fleet company declares a vehicle a total loss when a claim exceeds approximately 75% of its pre-damage value or if the vehicle is stolen and not recovered. This damage threshold varies by company. These companies typically take possession and obtain the title. Not all total loss vehicles result in a DMV-reported branded title, like a Salvage or Junk title. See the glossary for more information.
Junk Title
A Junk Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds approximately 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. The majority of states use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage.
Airbag Deployment
Occurs when the driver, passenger or side airbag has been used or deployed during a crash or other incident. If an airbag has been deployed, it must be replaced by a qualified technician. Have this car inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase.
Flood Damage Title
States issue flood titles when a vehicle has been in a flood or has received extensive water damage.

Rebuilt/Reconstructed Title
A Rebuilt/Reconstructed vehicle is a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and restored to operation. These vehicles are often severely damaged before they are rebuilt and refurbished parts are typically used during reconstruction. In most states, an inspection of the vehicle is required before the vehicle is allowed to return to the road.
Basic Warranty
Most manufacturers offer a basic warranty for new vehicles. These warranties vary by manufacturer and typically last for a certain amount of time and/or a set number of miles.
Salvage Title
A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds approximately 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following eleven States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.
Manufacturer Recall
Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you.

Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-888-648-7820 to locate an authorized Mitsubishi dealership near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: CERTAIN VEHICLES WITH CVT‐8 TRANSMISSIONS MAY EXHIBIT A SHUDDER CONDITION AT LOW SPEEDS (10 40 MPH), OR A SURGE/FLARE OF ENGINE RPM AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY A MALFUNCTIONING OF THE CVTS HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CONTROL SOFTWARE. IN THE WORST CASE SCENARIO, WITH CONTINUED DRIVING UNDER THESE CONDITIONS, THE CVT BELT MAY BECOME DAMAGED AND CAUSE A WARNING LIGHT TO TURN ON.

INSP CVT FLUID HOSE CLAMPS - 2015 OUTSPORT & RVR
2.0L &AUTO TRANS

Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-888-648-7820 to locate an authorized Mitsubishi dealership near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: THE HOSE CLAMP(S) USED ON THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT) FLUID HOSES MAY NOT HAVE BEEN RELEASED ON SOME VEHICLES DURING THE VEHICLE ASSEMBLY LINE PROCESS. THESE HOSE CLAMP(S), IF LEFT IN THE OPEN POSITION, MAY NOT PROPERLY SECURE THE HOSE END TO THE FITTING AND THE HOSE COULD BECOME DISCONNECTED FROM THE FITTING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. IF THIS OCCURS, TRANSMISSION FLUID WILL LEAK OUT OF THE DISCONNECTED HOSE AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY.

IF A TRANSMISSION FLUID HOSE BECOMES DISCONNECTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION FITTING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, TRANSMISSION FLUID WILL DRAIN FROM THE HOSE AND/OR THE FITTING, AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL NO LONGER OPERATE NORMALLY. THIS MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF DRIVE TRAIN POWER AND THE VEHICLE COULD BECOME INOPERABLE.WHILE THE SUBJECT TRANSMISSION HOSES ARE NOT LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD OR THE BATTERY, TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN ALSO PRESENT A FIRE HAZARD.

Remedy: OWNERS OF ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WILL BE NOTIFIED AND ENCOURAGED TO BRING IN THEIR VEHICLES FOR REPAIR. THE 10 TRANSMISSION HOSE CLAMPS WILL BE INSPECTED TO CONFIRM THAT THEY ARE NOT IN THE OPEN POSITION. CLAMPS FOUND IN THE OPEN POSITION WILL BE RELEASED.

2015 OUTLANDER SPORT CVT8 HESITATION DUE TO RANGE
SWITCH

Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-888-648-7820 to locate an authorized Mitsubishi dealership near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: DURING INITIAL ACCELERATION FROM A STANDSTILL, OR WHEN ACCELERATING AGAIN AFTER EITHER CONSTANT SPEED OPERATION OR COASTING DOWN, AFFECTED CVT EQUIPPED VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE A HESITATION IF THE RANGE SWITCH MOMENTARILY EXPERIENCES A LOSS OF SIGNAL.

IF THE RANGE SWITCH MOMENTARILY EXPERIENCES A LOSS OF SIGNAL, THIS MAY RESULT IN REDUCED VEHICLE ACCELERATION. UNEXPECTED REDUCTION IN AVAILABLE ACCELERATION DURING EVERY DAY DRIVING, SUCH AS ACCELERATION FROM A STOP, MERGING ON TO A FREEWAY, OR TURNING LEFT AGAINST TRAFFIC, COULD RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK OF AN ACCIDENT.

Remedy: OWNERS OF ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WILL BE NOTIFIED AND ENCOURAGED TO BRING IN THEIR VEHICLES FOR REPAIR. THE CVT-ECU WILL BE REPROGRAMED WITH A MODIFIED SOFTWARE. THE MODIFIED SOFTWARE IGNORES THE MOMENTARY LOSS OF THE RANGE SWITCH SIGNAL.

REAR PARKING BRAKE - 4A MODELS

Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-888-648-7820 to locate an authorized Mitsubishi dealership near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: (1) DUE TO INSUFFICIENT RUST PREVENTION TO THE SHAFT OF PARKING BRAKE AND INSUFFICIENT SEALING PERFORMANCE OF THE REAR BRAKE CALIPER BOOT, WATER MAY PENETRATE INSIDE THE CALIPER AND THE PARKING BRAKE OPERATING SHAFT, CAUSING THE CALIPER BODY AND THE SHAFT CORROSION. AS A RESULT, THE SHAFT MAY POTENTIALLY BECOME STUCK, CAUSING BRAKE DRAGGING AND/OR PARKING BRAKE PERFORMANCE DECREASING.(2) DUE TO INADEQUATE MANUFACTURING PROCESS, AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER FOR BRAKE PAD CLEARANCE OF THE REAR BRAKE CALIPER WITH BUILT-IN PARKING BRAKE MAY NOT WORK. IF THEY OCCUR SIMULTANEOUSLY, AS BRAKE PADS WEAR, INVALID STROKE OF PARKING BRAKE LEVER WILL INCREASE, FINALLY PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT WORK EVEN THOUGH THE LEVER IS FULLY OPERATED.

IF PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY, IT COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE ROLLAWAY AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: OWNERS OF ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WILL BE NOTIFIED AND ENCOURAGED TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES IN TO CHECK AND REPAIR THE REAR BRAKE. (1) IF CALIPER BODY IS FOUND TO BE CORRODED OR SHAFT IS FOUND TO BE STUCK, THE BRAKE CALIPER BODY ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED WITH A COUNTERMEASURE UNIT. OTHERWISE, THE BOOT AND LEVER WILL BE REPLACED WITH A COUNTERMEASURE UNIT. (2) THE PISTON ASSEMBLY OF THE REAR BRAKE CALIPER WILL BE REPLACED WITH A COUNTERMEASURE UNIT.

FRONT WIPER LINK REPLACEMENT

Status: Remedy Available

Click here or call 1-888-648-7820 to locate an authorized Mitsubishi dealership near you to obtain more information about this recall.

Description: IN THE EVENT THAT WATER DROPS DOWN THROUGH THE BACK SIDE OF THE FRONT DECK GARNISH (THE BODY PIECE BETWEEN THE HOOD AND WINDSHIELD), THE FRONT WIPER LINK BALL JOINT MAY EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE MOISTURE AND CORRODE. IF THIS OCCURS, THE RESIN CASE OF THE BALL JOINT WILL WEAR PREMATURELY DUE TO THE BALL JOINT CORROSION AND THE WIPER LINK MAY ULTIMATELY SEPARATE CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO STOP OPERATING.

IF WIPER LINK SEPARATION OCCURS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL BECOME INOPERATIVE WHICH COULD REDUCE DRIVER VISIBILITY UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: OWNERS OF ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WILL BE NOTIFIED AND ENCOURAGED TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES IN TO REPLACE THE ROD OF WIPER LINK WITH A COUNTERMEASURE UNIT. THE WIPER MOTOR CRANK ARM WILL ALSO BE REPLACED WITH NEW ONE. THE REPAIR WILL BE PERFORMED AT NO CHARGE TO THE VEHICLE OWNERS. OWNERS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR ANY EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RECALL WILL BE DIRECTED IN THE NOTIFICATION LETTER TO CONTACT THE MITSUBISHI CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT FOR REIMBURSEMENT CONSIDERATION.

Glossary

First Owner
When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.
Ownership History
CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1991 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history.
Title Issued
A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership.
CARFAX DEPENDS ON ITS SOURCES FOR THE ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY OF ITS INFORMATION. THEREFORE, NO RESPONSIBILITY IS ASSUMED BY CARFAX OR ITS AGENTS FOR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN THIS REPORT.
