About Mercury
The now defunct Mercury brand was introduced by Ford as a stepping stone to separate its mainstream vehicles from Lincoln’s luxurious cars. Most of Mercury’s vehicles utilized components, platforms, designs, and features from Ford.
In the early 2000s, Mercury had a well-rounded lineup with numerous body styles. The Cougar coupe, Grand Marquis sedan, Sable sedan, Mystique sedan, Villager minivan, and Mountaineer SUV were all available. Mercury flexed its performance muscles with the Marauder muscle sedan based on the Grand Marquis, while further expanding its lineup with the Milan and Montego. Mercury also introduced a new minivan called the Monterey.
By 2009, however, Mercury’s lineup had been dramatically reduced to just the Mariner, Sable, Mountaineer, and Grand Marquis. The Milan sedan and Mariner proved to be Mercury’s most popular options, but by 2010, Ford had announced its plans to drop the automaker altogether.
