About McLaren
Taking the knowledge it gained from racing in Formula One, McLaren set its sights on being an automaker that specializes in supercars. After helping Mercedes-Benz make the SLR, McLaren set the supercar world on fire with the launch of the 12C. The brand has also become a pioneer in using a carbon fiber monocoque chassis for its vehicles.
After getting a slow start, McLaren has exponentially expanded its lineup with supercars such as the 650S, 570S, and 720S. As a brand with a rich history of racing, McLaren has also introduced track-focused supercars with the 675LT, Senna, 600LT, and 765LT. In an attempt to appeal to drivers sho want supercar performance in a package that’s more comfortable for daily use, McLaren has also introduced grand tourers with the 570GT and GT.
McLaren has also made some vehicles to showcase its engineering prowess. The $2 million Speedtail became the fastest car ever from McLaren with a 250-mph top speed. The Elva was an open-top supercar that didn’t have a windshield and weighed only 2,809 pounds, making it the lightest McLaren ever made.
McLaren was one of the first automakers to introduce a supercar with a plug-in hybrid powertrain with the P1 in 2013. Currently, McLaren sells the Artura, a PHEV with blistering performance and an all-electric range of 11 miles. Unlike Ferrari and Lamborghini, McLaren doesn’t have an SUV in its lineup. The brand has also confirmed it plans to keep producing its mighty V8 throughout the next decade, though the engine will be paired with a hybrid component.
