The Land Rover badge has become synonymous with luxurious off-roaders, and for good reason. The British Automaker, which is a part of the Jaguar Land Rover group under Tata motors, is an iconic brand that’s known for making SUVs that can go anywhere and do anything, all while coddling passengers in luxury. All of Land Rover’s vehicles come with standard four-wheel drive.
Land Rover’s lineup has mainly focused on a single body style – SUVs. Shoppers won’t find a sedan, sports car, minivan, or pickup truck in the automaker’s lineup, as it solely focuses on today’s most popular body style. In the early parts of 2000, Land Rover only had a handful of vehicles on sale with the Discovery and Range Rover. The introduction of the Freelander gave Land Rover a small SUV, while the lineup further expanded with the LR3, LR2, LR4, and Range Rover Sport.
In more modern times, Land Rover has come out with SUVs that emphasize luxury and sporty aesthetics over off-roading capability. Vehicles such as the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar have expanded the iconic Range Rover line. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport themselves have also become more high-end and high-tech than ever before. The available Discovery Sport has rugged capability in a small, luxurious package, while the revived Defender and newer Discovery are the automaker’s midsize options.
Land Rover does not have an electric vehicle on sale, but does offer a few SUVs with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines. The Defender, Discovery, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover are all available with mild-hybrid engines. Plug-in hybrid engines are also available on the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover, while Land Rover’s first all-electric SUV is expected to arrive in 2025 and be a midsize option.
