About Kia
While Kia may have started off as an indistinct manufacturer of affordable, basic transportation, the South Korean brand has come a long way over the past few decades. Positioned as Hyundai’s corporate counterpart, Kia’s lineup spans nearly 20 models, all of which stand out for having extensive warranties, a generous list of standard features, and stylish designs.
Kia’s early model lineup consisted of a limited group of vehicles, many of which were small cars. Models that were available in the early 2000s included the Rio, Optima, Sephia, and Spectra. Kia was also the first South Korean automaker to have a minivan on sale with the Sedona. None of these early vehicles are available today, showcasing Kia’s extensive growth and expansion.
Over the years, Kia worked on updating its models to be more modern with newer versions of the Optima and Sedona, while introducing all-new vehicles such as the Forte5, Rio5, and Soul. Kia also entered new segments with the Borrego SUV, Rondo, and Amanti, which would later be used as the basis for upscale vehicles such as the Cadenza and K900. Kia’s current lineup consists of vehicles of all sizes and includes the Rio, Forte, K5, Stinger, Niro, Seltos, Sportage, Sorento, Telluride, and Carnival.
Kia has also emerged as a leader in electrification. The South Korean automaker sells hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines of many of its models including the Niro, Sportage, and Sorento. Kia also has a few all-electric models on sale with the Niro EV and EV6, which has won multiple awards and ranks as one of the best electric SUVs currently available.
