Jaguar F-Type Reviews
Introduced in 2014, the Jaguar F-Type is the newest sports car from this British brand and has been dubbed the spiritual successor to the E-Type that was built a half-century earlier. This rear-wheel drive two-seater is sold in coupe and convertible body styles.
Jaguar F-Type Overview
The Jaguar F-Type has a sports car design with a long hood, a sloping roof line and a muscular rear quarter with a liftgate and twin, oversized and centered exhaust pipes. This model is marked by active hood vents, front air vents and side vents as well as aluminum-alloy wheels.
Earlier models offered rear-wheel drive only. Beginning in the 2016 model year, an all-wheel drive variant and an optional six-speed manual transmission are available.
Two engine choices are available with the Jaguar F-Type, supercharged gasoline engines at that. The standard engine is a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 rated at 340 horsepower. In the S Line edition, this engine is tweaked to make 380 horsepower. Also available is a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine rated at 550 horsepower. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed manual is optional with rear-wheel drive V6 models for the 2016 model year.
The V6-powered model is rated an EPA-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway. The V8 model has an estimated fuel economy rating of 16/23 mpg city/highway. Both models take premium grade gasoline.
The interior is sporty and snug with a cabin that is focused entirely on the driver. Both performance seats are bolstered and the available F-Type R edition has bolsters that are inflatable.
All models come with a driver mode switch, enabling standard, sport and snow modes as needed. A hidden rear spoiler emerges once your speed hits 70 mph or it can be manually activated with the switch found on the center console.
Every Jaguar F-Type comes equipped with keyless entry and deployable door handles, a Meridian audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio, an infotainment system, power accessories and power adjustable seats. The S Models bring in a flat bottom steering wheel and a driver selectable active exhaust system. The R Coupe models have a power liftgate.
This model offers 11 cubic feet of storage space. Safety features include an automated emergency calling system.
