About Hummer
General Motors purchased the Hummer brand from AM General in 1999, bringing its mighty and rugged SUVs to the automaker’s lineup. Hummer started off as a brand that turned military vehicles into robust vehicles for members of the public to purchase before expanding to smaller and more street-oriented SUVs and trucks.
The first vehicle from the Hummer brand was the H1, which was available from 1992 to 2006 and built by AM General for the entirety of its lifespan. In 2003, GM expanded the Hummer brand with the introduction of the H2 SUV that was based on the same frame as the GM 2500 pickup truck. The H2 line then grew with the addition of a pickup body style in 2005. Looking to attract more customers, Hummer came out with an even smaller SUV called the H3 in 2006 that used the same platform as the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickups. A pickup truck version of the H3 arrived soon after in 2009 under the H3T nameplate.
While GM discontinued the Hummer brand in 2010, the automaker brought the nameplate back in 2022 with the all-electric GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV. As one would expect from a vehicle with the Hummer name, the electric pickup and SUV are enormous, highly capable vehicles with bold styling.
