About Genesis
While the Genesis name was first used on a midsize luxury car from Hyundai in 2009, it has now become a full-blown luxury brand that competes against the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Acura, and Audi. Ever since Hyundai’s decision to spin it off in 2017, Genesis has focused on stunning designs and strong value to quickly become a formidable brand in the luxury segment.
Genesis focused on establishing itself first with the midsize G80 and large G90 sedans. The automaker then looked toward the compact segment, expanding its lineup with the small G70 sedan. It wasn’t until 2021 that Genesis came out with its first SUV, the midsize GV80 and then the small GV70 in 2022. The automaker’s core lineup of five vehicles remains, though the majority of them have received noteworthy redesigns to become leaders in their respective segments.
Recently, Genesis has introduced a few electric vehicles with the GV60 SUV, Electrified G80 sedan, and Electrified GV70. The GV60, which was Genesis’ first all-electric vehicle, shares the same platform as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, while the Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70 share the same overall design as their gas-powered models, but come with all-electric powertrains. Just like Genesis’ gas-powered lineup, the automaker’s electric vehicles offer strong value and have striking designs.
