Ford Fiesta Overview
For a number of years, subcompact cars from American automakers were an afterthought. However, the segment is traditionally more competitive in Europe. So when Ford decided to introduce a new subcompact car in the U.S., they chose the Fiesta from the European model line.
In terms of design, the Fiesta features a sloped front end, slim headlights and a bold character line running across the doors. The interior features a funky dashboard design and a button-laden center stack. Cargo space stands at 12.8 cubic feet for the sedan and 15.4 cubic feet for the hatchback.
Power for the Fiesta comes from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic is optional.
All Fiestas come equipped with a capless fuel filler, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, auxiliary and USB ports and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. Higher trims get power windows and locks, 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels, a premium audio system, keyless entry and push-button start.
A big change for the Fiesta came in 2014 with a new Aston Martin-inspired front end with a hexagonal grille. The base Fiesta S received standard Bluetooth and the MyFord Touch infotainment system became available. New wheel choices were also offered, as well as a new turbocharged 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine with 123 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual is the only transmission offered if you choose the 1.0-liter engine.
The Ford Fiesta ST was also introduced for the 2014 model year. It packs a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 197 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on Fiesta ST models. The Fiesta ST also gets a firmer suspension, larger brakes, a unique body kit and optional Recaro seats.
For the 2016 model year, Sync 3 replaces the available MyFord Touch infotainment system. In addition to faster response times, Sync 3 is said to be more user-friendly.
